STYRENE ACRYLATE RESIN

COCs have been used as binder resins in toners to replace the conventional binders, such as styrene/acrylate resins and poly(ester) resins (53,55). [Pg.56]

Seymour et al. (1982) highlighted the rheology of linear and gelled random styrene acrylate resins filled with carbon black for toner usage. The melt rheology was strongly affected by the initial structure in the resin and by the dispersion of the carbon black. [Pg.361]

Today, the most common types of synthetic dry strength additive are based on polyacrylamide although polyvinylamine strength additives are growing in popularity. This is because of the relatively low cost, and the ability to readily put an ionic charge onto these polymers. Other resins such as polyvinyl alcohol or lattices are used, but generally these are seen in surface applications to the paper, rather than as wet-end additives. Similarly styrene acrylic resins have shown superior performance when applied through surface application rather than as stock additives [8],... [Pg.139]

Details are given of the use of DSC to evaluate the binder content in latex paints. The phenomena of thermal decomposition were studied for the main components of latex paints. Data are given for binders such as vinyl acetate copolymers, styrene-acrylic resin copolymers, and rheological modifiers such as cellulose ethers. 5 refs. [Pg.99]

In zinc-rich paints some early patents indicate the importance of a silica component. Colloidal silica was reacted with finely divided zinc to form a colloidal zinc silicate in which the excess zinc metal was suspended (654). A water-insoluble binder for zinc-containing coatings was produced by mixing alkali-stabilized colloidal silica with lithium hydroxide in suitable proportions (655). Evolution of gas from mixtures of colloidal silica with zinc powder is prevented by adding an indigoid compounds (656). Another formulation involves quaternary ammonium polysilicate solution milled with lead oxide as the binder for zinc (657). Some of the problems stem from the impurities in the zinc powder which promote reaction with the medium (658). Adhesion. of paints of this type of steel is improved by adding up to 2% of a styrene-acrylic resin dispersion (659). [Pg.432]

Anderson and co-workers [21] described an IR method for the determination of down to 1 % of bound styrene units in styrenated acrylate resins. [Pg.123]

A pre-print corrugated ink is composed of a styrene acrylic emulsion colloid vehi-de and a rosin fumarate ester resin and/or styrene acrylic resin solution vehide. The physical properties of emulsions and resins used in pre-print corrugated ink are listed in Tabs 5.4 and 5.5 for. [Pg.119]
