Strontium borates

A variety of transition and other metal borates are reported in the literature. These include manganese borate, silver borate, iron borate, copper borate, nickel borate, strontium borate, lead borate, zirconium borate, double metal borates, and so on. Many of these borates have the potential to be flame retardants and/or smoke suppressants.

SCANDIUM STRONTIUM BORATE, ALUMINUM STRONTIUM YTTRIUM BORATE, AND LANTHANUM MAGNESIUM STRONTIUM BORATE... 

Borates. Strontium fluoroborate Sr3B12O20F2 Eu2+ is used in photocopier lamps, black light lamps, and lamps for medical applications (2max = 366 nm). 

The SrO 3B203 4H20 compound, occurring as tunellite, can be synthesized from the reaction between ammonium pentaborate and strontium salts. It was the first borate to be identified as possessing the hexaborate anion (Section III,A). The pentahydrate, 1 3 5, is stable in the SrO-B203-H ) system within the temperature range 0-100°C. Several routes to its preparation have been reported (206), and its dehydration has recently been studied (197). 

The lack of data on certain metal borate systems has been implied in Section V. Quite apart from thallium, zinc, and lead compounds, the range of known borates of barium and strontium is somewhat limited. There are no obvious reasons why the latter should not have stability ranges approaching those of calcium and magnesium borates. Clearly, more investigations are necessary in this area. 

Typical fillers carbon black, calcium carbonate, dolomite, clays, calcinated clays, talc, soapstone, zinc oxide, filmed silica, borates, iron oxide, zinc oxide, magnesium carbonate, pulverized polyurethane foam, barium and strontium ferrites, magnesium aluminum silicate, nylon fibers, quartz in EMI shielding field silver plated aluminum, silver plated nickel, silver coated glass spheres, silver plated copper, silver, nickel and carbon black... 

Experimental work and the application of management techniques showed that these waste liquors could be treated and thus improve the chemical safety of the operation. Additionally, it was possible to recover sodium chloride for use in the foodstuffs industry together with borate and strontium salts for use by industry.
