Magnesium borate

Borax Decahydrate and Pentahydrate. Borax decahydrate and pentahydrate are produced from sodium borate ores, dry lake brines, colemanite, or magnesium borate ores. [Pg.200]

Borax pentahydrate is produced from various sodium borate and magnesium borate ores. In the United States, it is produced from dry lake brines, colemanite and tincal. It is commercially produced along with the decahy-drate. The production processes are similar to decahydrate (see Borax dec-ahydrate). [Pg.119]

The mineral hydroboracite is a calcium magnesium borate of composition CaO MgO 3 B2O3 6 H2O. Concentrates of this mineral typically containing about 44% B2O3 are primarily used in the manufacture of ceramic glaze compositions. [Pg.30]

Infrared spectroscopy is the favored technique for characterizing borates, and several compilations of data have been made (171, 333,417, 423,431,432). The intense absorption at about 970 cm-1 is characteristic of tetrahedrally coordinated boron, as measured for the magnesium borates MgO B203 nH20 (153), and bands at 700 to 900 and 1200 to 1500 cm-1 can correspond to triangular boron coordination. Absorptions in the region 400 to 700 cm-1 have been attributed to chain structures (423). [Pg.200]

Many magnesium borate systems have been investigated a few of the major studies are listed in Table VII. The main magnesium borates stable in contact with aqueous solutions are the 1 1 3 (pinnoite), 1 3 x, 2 1 1, and 2 3 15 (inderite) compounds. [Pg.217]

The lack of data on certain metal borate systems has been implied in Section V. Quite apart from thallium, zinc, and lead compounds, the range of known borates of barium and strontium is somewhat limited. There are no obvious reasons why the latter should not have stability ranges approaching those of calcium and magnesium borates. Clearly, more investigations are necessary in this area. [Pg.225]

The mineral boronatrocalcite i. e. double borate of sodium and oaloium Na20. 2 CaO. 5 B203.16 H20, is found mainly in Chile and Peru. It is decomposed with diluted hydroohloric acid in wooden vats and boric acid is obtained by crystallizing from dear leach liquor. In a similar way is also treated the mineral boraroite whioh is mainly magnesium borate and chloride MgCl2. [Pg.422]

Structural reorganizations [126] during the thermal decompositions of hydrated borates in general, and of calcium borate (pandermite) and potassium magnesium borate in particular are complex, proceeding through step-by-step processes. The parent structure is gradually transformed into more stable forms by apparently the... [Pg.244]

Derivation By mixing magnesium borate and magnesium citrate. [Pg.777]

Antifungin EINECS 237-235-5 Magnesium borate Magnesium metaborate. An antiseptic and fungicide. Occurs in a variety of minerals. White powder, slightly soluble in H2O. [Pg.374]

LijNaBFg doped with Cu and co-doped with P are synthesized by a wet chemical technique and exposed to gamma-rays of Co for their TL properties. The XRD technique shows the crystalline nature of the prepared material. The crystalline form of the materials is characterized by a powder XRD pattern recorded on a Philips P Analytical X Pert Pro diffractometer at room temperature. The XRD pattern of Li2NaBFg is shown in Figure 7.38. This material produced well-defined XRD lines for the powder samples that confirm its crystalline nature. However, for recorded XRD patterns, no matching files are seen in the JCPDS library (limited numbers of files are only available for mixed lithium magnesium borate crystals). The XRD pattern of LijNaBF material did not indicate individual presence of any traces of ammonium fluoride and other likely phases, which is an indirect evidence for the formation of the desired compound. The final product was formed in homogeneous white powder form. [Pg.180]
