Strong acid-weak base. As an example of a reaction of a strong acid with a weak base, consider what happens when an aqueous solution of a strong acid like HC1 is added to an aqueous solution of ammonia, NH3. Again, we consider the reaction to take place in two steps. The first step is the reaction of NH3 with H20 to form NH4+ and OH- ions. When an acid in solution is exactly neutralized with a base the resulting solution corresponds to a solution of the salt of the acid-base pair.
