Stress fatigue

Fatigue is another property of considerable interest to the design engineer. CycHc deflections of a predeterrnined ampHtude, short of giving immediate failure, are appHed to the specimen, and the number of cycles to failure is recorded. In addition to mechanically induced periodic stresses, fatigue failure can be studied when developing cycHc stresses by fluctuating the temperature. 

Sweepolet is a contoured, integral r r, rr butt-weld branch connection with a low intensification factor for low stresses -fatigue life. The attachment weld is easily amined by radiography, ultrasound and other standard non-destructive techniques. 

Macroscopic heterogeneities, e.g. crevices, discontinuities in surface films, bimetallic contacts etc. will have a pronounced effect on the location and the kinetics of the corrosion reaction and are considered in various sections throughout this work. Practical environments are shown schematically in Fig. 1.3, which also serves to emphasise the relationship between the detailed structure of the metal, the environment, and external factors such as stress, fatigue, velocity, impingement, etc. 

Mechanical effects Corrosion can often be initiated or intensified by the conjoint action of mechanical factors. Typical examples include the presence of inherent or applied stresses, fatigue, fretting or cavitation effects. Inhibitors that are effective in the absence of some or all of these phenomena may not be so in their presence. In fact it may not always be possible to use inhibitors successfully in these situations and other methods of corrosion prevention will be required. 

The degradation of the matrix in a moist environment strongly dominates the material response properties under temperature, humidity, and stress fatigue tests. The intrinsic moisture sensitivity of the epoxy matrices arises directly from the resin chemical structure, such as the presence of hydrophilic polar and hydrogen grouping, as well as from microscopic defects of the network structure, such as heterogeneous crosslinking densities. 

The design is supported by stress, fatigue, buckling and safety analysis, and relies on standard steel. Only in localized areas would higher quality (albeit still standard) steel be needed. Carbon hber instead of steel pre-tensioning cables may provide higher performance at a marginal cost increase, but are not strictly required. 

Mechanical stress Fatigue, creep, stress-relaxation, set, abrasion... 

Flashbacks may occur days, months, or years after using the drug, and may include seeing intense colors and other hallucinations. They can be sparked by the use of another drug, stress, fatigue, or physical exercise. The flashbacks can range from mild to intense and include feelings of anxiety. They can last several minutes. 

Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus serotype 1 (HSV-1). A person may become infected by transmission from another individual who has a cold sore, for example, by kissing. The vims passes through the skin and travels up the nerve, where it usually lies dormant until triggered. Common risk factors include emotional stresses, fatigue, colds and viruses that may weaken the body s immune system, menstruation and environmental factors such as cold weather and strong winds.
