Cor a long time wooden containers were probably the most common type of storage vessel for bulk wine. Under proper conditions, they still may be very desirable wine cooperage for a number of reasons. The latter permits reasonable vaporization of the liquid contents due to heat leak without incurring too rapid a buildup of pressure in the vessel. This, in turn, permits closure of the container for short periods either to avoid partial loss of the contents or to permit the safe transport of flammable or hazardous cryogens.
