Stepped barrel

Stepped barrel. A backflow, in opposite direction to the material feed, the so-called leakage flow , that reduces the theoretically possible... [Pg.74]

As OPEC s share of the world oil supply market continued to fall in the 1990s, they began taking steps to better coordinate production with iron-OPEC producers such as Mexico and other members of the Independent Petroleum Exporting Countries (IPEC). By exchanging information, and undertaking joint studies of issues of common interest, the hope was to stabilize prices and improve the economic outlook for all oil producers. This collaboration between OPEC and major non-OPEC producers helped raise oil prices to over 27 a barrel in 1999 from a low of less than 13 in 1998. [Pg.582]

Figure 12-2T. Medium- or high-pressure, double-acting cylinder with flanged liner. The liner is locked in place by a flange between head and cylinder barrel. A step on the liner O.D. permits easy insertion. The cylinder may be made of cast-iron, nodular iron, or cast steel, depending on operating pressure. Note Optional two-compartment distance piece (type D) designed to contain flammable, hazardous, or toxic gases is illustrated. (Used by permission Bui. 33640, June 1985. Dresser-Rand Company.)... Topaz was used to calculate the time response of the model to step changes in the heater output values. One of the advantages of mathematical simulation over experimentation is the ease of starting the experiment from an initial steady state. The parameter estimation routines to follow require a value for the initial state of the system, and it is often difficult to hold the extruder conditions constant long enough to approach steady state and be assured that the temperature gradients within the barrel are known. The values from the Topaz simulation, were used as data for fitting a reduced order model of the dynamic system. [Pg.496]

Based on the shapes of the responses to step changes in controller output, and reasoning from the physical configuration of the extruder barrel, a reduced order dynamic model of the process was postulated. One can think of the Topaz program as order 80 (the number of nodes in the finite element subdivision), and the reduced model of order 4 (the number of dynamic variables). The figure below illustrates the model. [Pg.497]

I tried to step proudly onto the deck, lost my footing, and went sprawling, striking my wounded shoulder on a barrel as I fell. Someone laughed, then another. I struggled to my knees and found I was looking up at my father. My mother was nowhere to be seen. What had they done to her ... [Pg.86]

Following steps were applied for preparing sample Rl —> R3 of RDF production (Fig. 11). They firstly separated manually and mixed again to ensure the composition, which will be sent thereafter into digestion barrels. [Pg.450]

In this barrel, air is expected to come naturally. Temperature and leachate volume were measured twice a week. Once a week, waste was taken out to mix with air and then put back into the barrel. At the same time, sample was taken to measure water content. Stabilization step ended when waste body stopped generating water, varied from 18 to 51 days, due to waste input characteristic and environmental temperature. After this time, raw RDF was collected and stored for further analysis. Stabilization time of El > E3 and R1 > R3 was compared with that of other study (Table 8). [Pg.453]

The electrodes used in the above studies were double-barreled glass pH sensitive microelectrodes, and the spatial retinal pH profile was recorded by withdrawing the microelectrode tip at a rate of 1 //m/s or lOOpm/step across the retina in vivo or in vitro. In a typical retina pH profile (Fig. 10.9), measured in cat retina by the microelectrode, started from the choroids (Ph = 7.41, at distance Ojum). The pH steadily decreased to a minimum value (a maximum [H+] concentration) in the proximal portion of the outer nuclear layer (pH = 7.14 at —140 jum), then increased to —7.28 (at —310 pm) at the vitreous retinal border. The peak [H+] concentration in this layer indicated that a net production of proton occurred across the avascular outer retina [76],... [Pg.318]

The plasticator on an injection-molding machine is a specialized plasticating single-screw extruder. The plasticator has two main differences there is a nonreturn valve on the tip of the screw, and the screw retracts as molten material accumulates between the nonreturn valve and the end of the barrel. Pressure is maintained on the accumulated material by a constant force applied to the shank of the screw via the drive system. This force is typically measured as a pressure applied to the shank and is referred to as the back pressure. During the injection step of the process, the screw is forced forward, the nonreturn valve closes, and the material is injected into the mold. Additional information on the injection-molding process can be obtained elsewhere [Ij. [Pg.4]
