Static global rates

The observed diffusion and reaction rate coefficients can be obtained from specific experiments. To quantify the rate coefficients on the right-hand side of Eq. (5.23), kinetic experiments could be conducted such that the global rate is preferably determined by FD, PD, or CR. In the laboratory these steps can be simulated separately by conducting experiments using static, stirred, or vortex batch adsorption systems (Ogwada and Sparks, 1986b). Therefore, to these systems one can assign additive resistance relations as follows ... 

The mass loss rate, dM/dt, is assumed small enough to have negligible effect on stellar structure. It merely introduces, throughout the static stellar envelope, a global outward velocity of matter, vw, expressing the conservation of the flux of the main constituent. A trace element diffusing in the presence of mass loss must satisfy the conservation equation, in which both vw and the diffusion velocity appear (Michaud and Charland 1986, Paquette et al. 1986). 

A comparison of the global ciunulative production of tungsten, the reserves, and the static lifetime presented in Fig. 2.5 is very informative. From this comparison, it can be seen that the reserves increased from 700.0001 in 1951 to 2.3 million t in 1978, in spite of considerable production growth rates. This increases the static lifetime of the reserves from 38 to 49 years. 

Continuing increases are expected in the markets for electronic components, devices, and equipment. Plant modernization activities will increase requirements for automated production machinery. Improvement in communication will continue to promote sales of items such as facsimile machines, personal computers, and cellular telephones. This will provide more opportunities for antistatic agents for static and electromagnetic interference control. Globally antistatic agents are expected to grow at a rate of 5 to 6%/year over the next 5 years.
