Starch regular

Most of the starch used in adhesives in the United States is produced from com or maize. There are four commercially available starch types that are used in adhesives. These are waxy com starch, regular com starch, high amylose type V com starch, and high amylose type VII corn starch. The major difference between these starches is in the amount of amylose contained in them—approximately 0, 28, 55, and 70%, respectively, by iodine titration. Other starches usable in adhesives include sorghum... [Pg.153]

The protein fraction is filtered and dried to become high (60%) protein content com gluten meal. The starch slurry can be dewatered and dried to produce regular com starch. Dry starch can be sold as is or heat treated in the presence of acid catalysts to produce dextrins. Or, it is chemically modified before dewatering and drying to produce modified starches used in food and industrial appHcations. Lasdy, it can be hydroly2ed to produce corn sweeteners. [Pg.360]

The basis of ultrafiltration is that a liquor is passed through a membrane many times until the required concentration of the permeate is attained. Fouling of the membrane can be a problem and regular cleaning and disinfection of the membrane is recommended. Ultrafiltration of poly(vinyl alcohol) and starch sizes offers economic advantages over... [Pg.110]

What to do Remove overwintering brassica plants as soon as they have finished cropping. This should be done by mid-spring. Bury plant debris deep in a compost pile, or in a compost trench. Examine young plants regularly from early summer to fall and squash any colonies of eggs or young. Pesticides Insecticidal soap pyrethrum plant oils and starch-based sprays. [Pg.323]

More complex polysaccharides play important roles in connective tissues and elsewhere. For example, hyaluronic acid is universally present in connective tissues of animals, as well as in their vitreous and synovial fluids. It helps to provide the fluids present in joints with shock-absorbing and lubricating properties. Unlike cellulose, chitin, starch, and glycogen, hyaluronic acid contains two different monomers glucose and N-acetylglucosamine alternate in the structure. Thus, hyaluronic acid is a regular alternating copolymer ABABABA —... [Pg.211]

Ingestion of commercial preparations that contain digestion-resistant starches and bacteria (e.g. homolactic lactobacilli) increases volatile fatty acid formation in the colon. This provides more fuel for colonocytes it is claimed regular intake of these preparations improves intestinal function and hence mood, known sometimes as die feel good factor. [Pg.73]

Lastly When viewed with polarized light the cross is generally less regular in the potato starch grains than in those of the tous-les-mois.—Pereira. [Pg.961]

From these experiments the authors concluded that the nitration of raw starch entailed a decrease in its structure regularity. Amorphous starch, on the contrary, acquired a more regular stucture as the result of nitration. [Pg.423]
