In the past chemical cure linings have been employed on a wide scale. These linings, usually based on natural rubber or acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber consist of a standard lining compound with a chemical activator such as dibenzylamine incorporated in the formulation. Prior to the application of the lining to the substrate, the individual sheets of rubber are dipped or brush coated with carbon disulphide or a solution of a xanthogen disulphide in a solvent. The carbon disulphide or xanthogen disulphide permeates the rubber and combines with the dibenzylamine to form an ultra-fast dithiocar-bamate accelerator in situ, and thus the rubber rapidly vulcanises at ambient temperature. [Pg.940]

In the internal standard method the intensity of the unknown line is measured relative to that of an internal standard line. The internal line may be a weak line of the main constituent. Alternatively, it may be a strong line of an element known not to be present in the sample and furnished by adding a fixed small amount of a compound of the element in question to the sample. The ratios of the intensities of these lines — the unknown line and the internal standard line — will be unaffected by the exposure and development conditions. This method will provide lines of suitable wavelength and intensity by variations of the added element and the amount added, due regard being paid to the relative volatility of the selected internal standard element. It is important to use as internal standard pairs only those lines of which the relative intensities are insensitive to variations in excitation conditions. The line selected as standard should have a wavelength close to that of the unknown and should, if possible, have roughly the same intensity. [Pg.769]

Treatment of psychiatric complications should generally be along standard lines for the respective conditions. Some syndromes appear to be brief and self-limiting once ecstasy use stops, but a more chronic course may also be seen, with cases in the literature of psychoses which prove resistant to treatment (Vecellio et al. 2003). Whichever psychiatric syndrome occurs, there is possibly a theoretical indication for specific serotonergic re-uptake inhibitors such as fluoxetine, sertraline or citalopram, given the effect of ecstasy in reducing serotonin transmission. This would purely be a pragmatic approach which has not yet been properly tested, and it may be that the transmission abnormalities are not amenable to this kind of enhancement. [Pg.94]

Investigation of atomic spectra yields atomic energy levels. An important chemical application of atomic spectroscopy is in elemental analysis. Atomic absorption spectroscopy and emission spectroscopy are used for rapid, accurate quantitative analysis of most metals and some nonmetals, and have replaced the older, wet methods of analysis in many applications. One compares the intensity of a spectral line of the element being analyzed with a standard line of known intensity. In atomic absorption spectroscopy, a flame is used to vaporize the sample in emission spectroscopy, one passes a powerful electric discharge through the sample or uses a flame to produce the spectrum. Atomic spectroscopy is used clinically in the determination of Ca, Mg, K, Na, and Pb in blood samples. For details, see Robinson. [Pg.70]
