Section 2 combines the former separate section on Mathematics with the material involving General Information and Conversion Tables. The fundamental physical constants reflect values recommended in 1986. Physical and chemical symbols and definitions have undergone extensive revision and expansion. Presented in 14 categories, the entries follow recommendations published in 1988 by the lUPAC. The table of abbreviations and standard letter symbols provides, in a sense, an alphabetical index to the foregoing tables. The table of conversion factors has been modified in view of recent data and inclusion of SI units cross-entries for archaic or unusual entries have been curtailed. [Pg.1286]

SLD stands for Standardized Letter Designation. The letter designation is for the combined thermocouple with each individual thermoelement designated by P or N for positive or negative legs, respectively—for example, SN stands for platinum, TP stands for copper, and so on. [Pg.1185]

The Instrument Society of America (ISA) has assigned standard letter designations to a number of thermocouple types having specified emf-temperature relations. These designations and the approximate metal compositions which meet the required relations, as well as the useful temperature ranges, are given below ... [Pg.2314]

Where appropriate use the telephone, email, letters or fax instead of time-consuming meetings. Letters should be kept as brief and to the point as possible and standardized letters should be used where appropriate. Avoid idle chatter. While social chit-chat may be enjoyable, it can be a big time waster. Face-to-face and telephone conversations should be polite but whenever possible kept brief Reducing a coffee break from 15 to 10 minutes and limiting social chatter in the corridor can free up a considerable block of time throughout a week. Making use of a secretary to take calls or the use of an answerphone can be helpful in protecting oneself from excessive demands in the workplace. [Pg.59]
