Standard Double-Sided Tapes

Most double-sided tapes have cross-linked acrylic PSAs, which often are tackified with compatible resins. The adhesives on both sides can be identical or different, for example, to combine reversible and permanent bonding. Some adhesives are based on natural rubber or styrenic block copolymers. 

Widely used backings are rigid and conformable films, nonwovens, fabrics, creped paper, and foams based on pol)mrethanes, polyolefins and their copolymers, etc. Generally the thickness of the adhesive layer has to be increased with increasing roughness of the substrates. Foams are especially usefid for rugged or profiled surfaces. 

An important element is the interliner, which mainly is coated with a silicone release agent, as described in Chapter 2.4. Glassine kraft paper is used most frequently. Creped paper, rigid and semirigid films are also used. Besides the peel force, stiffness and conformability are significant features of the interliners. More detailed information is in [211, p. 691-705]. 

Double-sided tapes are used for a vast diversity of applications in industry and household. Further important applications are laminating narrow profiles and wide substrates like foams and thick mats to endow them with pressure-sensitive adhesion. Two special applications are  

2) Double-sided tapes are used further to fix the printplates onto the printing rollers. The adhesive has to ensure that the tape is mounted easily and the plate stays down during the printing process. After finishing the plate must be easily demountable without residues.

Six samples were analyzed three froin the top of the bed (K-2, J-2 and I-2)i and three from the bottom C-2, B-2 and A-2). In each case, the outer surface of the pellets was examined first (pellets mounted on doubte ided tape on u standard stub) the pellets were then pulverized in a mortar and the resulting powder was analyzed (powder also mounted on double-sided tape). 

Adhesion testing of double-sided tapes is achieved by applying a 25 pm polyester film of suitable width to one side of the tape, then carrying out a standard adhesion test on the... 

Sample Generation Analytical standards of VX and GB (approximately 0.1% in isopropanol) were diluted to the desired concentration and then applied to soil samples that had previously been characterized in terms of specific surface area. The volume of standard was roughly equivalent to the volume of solid sample in most cases. Residual isopropanol was allowed to evaporate, at which time particles were affixed to a sample holder (again the 18 finishing nail head) using double-sided tape. The sample holder was fitted into the end of the direct insertion probe and locked into place using a set screw. All these manipulations were performed inside the surety hood. 

Indomethacin and paracetamol loaded spheroids/beads were prepared by a standard spheronization technique employing an Alexanderwert extruder and a Caleva spheronizer fitted with an 8.5 inch radial plate and a base spheroid composition of 50 50 microcrystalline cellulose (Avicel PH101, PMC) and Lactose BP (Wey Products Ltd), respectively. The average diameter of the spheroids was of the order of 1.1 mm as determined by light microscopy. For the SSIMS analysis the spheroids were placed in a close-packed arrangement on the sample holder secured by double sided adhesive tape. 

The AFM is set up for a standard CM experiment (Sect. 3.2.2). To be able to address the morphology and roughness on various lateral length scales, a large area scanner is selected. After the sample (film firmly attached to the sample puck with double sided sticky tape) has been mounted, care has to be taken to note the relative orientation of cantilever and characteristic film directions (e.g. the machine direction). 

ESCA measurements were performed on ESCA 100 (USW Manchester) using MgK radiation of 1253.6 eV under pressure of 10 bar. Cls=284.5 eV was applied as an internal standard. The samples were fixed to the sample holder using the double-sided adhesive tape. The original ESCA curves were numerically deconvoluted into components of mixed Gaussian-Lorentzian shape. 

For emulsion tests, polyamide-coated terephthalate plastic plates are attached powder-side down by double-faced transparent tape strips to the undersurface of the lid of 9 x 1 cm Pyrex Petri dishes. The plates, 2x3 cm, are cut from standard 20 x 20 cm polyamide-terephthalate plates used for thin-layer chromatography. They are Polygram - Polyamide-6 UV254, procured from Macherey-Nagel and Co. through Brinkmann Instruments, Inc., Westbury, N.Y. As indicated, they contain a fluorophore (zinc silicate) activated by short-wave UV, but not active in the 360-nm range used herein.
