Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) provides a standard method for accurate quantification of plant hormones, but requires pre-derivatizing those to volatile compounds that may affect the yield of the analyzed compounds as hydrolysis of the derivatives, multiple-products formation, and limited volatility occur. Capillary zone electrophoresis was used to determine dissociation constants of cytokinins [284,285], to explore their separation and possible quantification [274,286], Main disadvantage of the method in trace analysis is a relatively high limit of detection coming from the restricted injection volumes that are typically in the nanoliter range. This limitation may be overcome by the use of sensitive detection systems (e.g. mass spectrometry) and/or the development of on-line stacking methods [287]. [Pg.247]

The injection methods used in (iCE can either be stacking- or extraction-based methods. Stacking methods such as mediated stacking [236], gated injection [237], field amplified sample injection [238], the staggered-T configuration [239], field-amplified sample injection [238], and pressure-driven injection [10, 86] are widely adopted in pCE because they are simple to implement. Extraction-based techniques, such as membrane filtration [240, 241], SPE [32, 242], liquid-liquid extraction [243], and bioaffinity purification [53, 244] offer a more scalable platform for complete sample injection. [Pg.236]

In the previous sections, several methods of sample preconcentration were described. Regardless of the mechanism, every example of sample stacking requires a change in the velocity of the analyte as determined by the drive to maintain the KRF value. Unfortunately, neutral analytes do not contribute to the KRF and a different perspective on sample stacking must be taken. There are a number of stacking methods available when using MEKC. This section will describe the fundamental mechanism and conditions by which sample preconcentration of neutral molecules occurs. [Pg.420]

Neutral molecules analyzed by MEKC require special and more difficult stacking methods [18]. They concentrate based on stacking either by having regions of difference in the electric field or by sweeping, that is, picking and accumulating of analytes by the pseudostationary phase that penetrates the sample [18]. [Pg.790]

Jeong et al. described an improvement in signal of 500-fold, using ITP as a stacking method to preconcentrate simple fluorescein electrolytes using 250 mM NaCl as leading electrolyte. [Pg.1385]

Poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) was used by Nguyen et al. as a polymer matrix to prepare electrically conducting nano(micro)poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) fiber non-woven web [50]. The electrical conductivity of the electrospun PEDOT non woven web was as high as 7.5 S cm when 1-propanol was used as the solvent. An electrochemical capacitor was assembled using one pair of the PEDOT nonwoven webs as the electrodes by a simple stack method, where metal plates were used as current collectors. They observed the electrochemical charge and discharge behavior of the capacitor, confirming that the PEDOT nonwoven web can be used as an electrode for flexible electrochemical capacitors. [Pg.180]

Nonwoven mats of cellulose microfibrils were also used to prepare polyurethane composite materials via film stacking method [160], Water-redispersible nanofibrillated cellulose in powder form was recently prepared from refined bleached beech pulp by carboxymethylation and mechanical disintegration [161], However, the carboxymethylated sample displayed a loss of crystallinity and strong decrease in thermal stability limiting its use for nanocomposite processing. [Pg.91]

To control the temperature in microreactors, the stacking method has been used in most cases. The plates to hold the micro-channels with their bodies are stacked to construct a dense chemical reaction system. By stacking the plates, they can be operated as conducting materials for heat transfer. Maintaining the temperature is as important as releasing the generated heat to control the chemical reactions. Counterflow channels... [Pg.559]

Very recently, in our group, enhanced self-reinforced PP composites based on commercial PP fabrics were obtained by the film stacking method followed by compression molding introducing different contents of micron-sized quartz particles in the matrix films (unpublished results). Simultaneous improvements of composite tensile strength, ductility and fracture toughness were observed from the addition of quartz to the polymer matrix (Table 14.1). Enhanced degree of consohdation was obtained for the composites with quartz as evidenced from the improved mechanical properties and by SEM observations. This was also confirmed by acoustic emission analysis in situ in tensile tests. [Pg.514]

The film stacking method is a technique where the fiber reinforcement is sandwiched between films of the same polymer, and then hot pressing is apphed to consolidate them together. Note that the melting of the matrix-giving film should start at lower temperature than the reinforcement. This technique has been apphed to a wide range of polymers, such as poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) [6-7], polypropylene (PP) [8-11], polyethylene (PE) [10,12] and polylactic acid (PLA) [13]. [Pg.676]
