Stabilising measures for slope stability

The design should ensure that all construction activities on site can be plaimed and executed such that the occurrence of an Ultimate Limit State is unlikely. 

If the stability of a slope cannot be guaranteed or when the deformations are considered unacceptable for the intended use of the reclamation, then stabihsing methods are required. 

Very gentle slopes can be realised by hydraulic placement of fill. This way, stability problems when adding fill on very soft material will generally be limited, compared to dry fill procedures. 

The slopes formed during hydraulic fill operations mainly depend on the particle size of the sand and whether the fill is deposited above or below the water table (or in the tidal zone).
