The most important removal pathways of PhACs during wastewater treatment are biotransformation/biodegradation and abiotic removal by adsorption to the sludge. The efficiency of their removal at WWTP depends on their physico-chemical properties, especially hydrophobicity and biodegradability, and process operating parameters (i.e., HRT, SRT, and temperature). For certain NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, acetaminophen), high removals (>90%) are consistently reported in literature... [Pg.204]

To achieve a steady state, simulation time was set to 60 days which is six times of the SRT. The settling was assumed to ideal settling. A stepwise calibration nethdology was applied to the SBR process and some key parameters in ASM2d were optimized (results not shown). [Pg.402]

Compared to the Category Test, SSP and SRT results show a relatively mixed performance profile. This profile is indicative of temporal lobe impairment and may explain the idiosyncratic character of PCP-induced brain dysfunction. Other HRB subtest data suggest that parietal lobe-mediated functions are less influenced by PCP abuse, since approximately 30 percent of this sample had error-free performances on a test sensitive to finger agnosia. [Pg.212]

The activated sludge process for meat processing wastewater treatment was reported by Annachhatre and Bhamidimarri.37 When a model reactor was operated at an HRT of 5-15 h, a COD removal of more than 85% was achieved. The COD loading for the above performance was 3.2kg COD/(m3d). An SRT of 13 d resulted in almost complete nitrification. El-Gohary et al.30 reported that the activated sludge process reduced the BOD and COD of a potato-chips factory wastewater by 86% and 84%, respectively. The organic loading rate and HRT were reported as 8.9 kg BOD/ (m3d) and 6h, respectively. [Pg.1244]

The microautoclave solvent activity tests measure coal conversion in a small batch reactor under carefully controlled conditions. The tests are described as Kinetic, Equilibrium and SRT. The Kinetic and Equilibrium Tests measure coal conversion to tetrahydrofuran solubles at conditions where conversion should be monotonically related to hydrogen transfer. The Kinetic Test is performed at 399°C for 10 minutes at an 8 to 1 solvent to coal ratio. The combination of high solvent ratio and low time provide a measure of performance at essentially constant solvent composition. The measured conversion is thus related to the rate of hydrogen donation from solvent of roughly a single composition. In contrast, the Equilibrium Test is performed at 399°C for 30 minutes at a 2 to 1 solvent to coal ratio. At these conditions, hydrogen donors can be substantially depleted. Thus performance is related to hydrogen donor... [Pg.195]

Autoclave Results - Solvent Activity Test. The initial microautoclave work was done with tetralin and methylnaphtha-lene, using Indiana V bituminous coal (Table I). Base line data is shown in Figure 4. All three tests, Kinetic, SRT, and Equilibrium, show an increase in coal conversion with an increase in the concentration of tetralin. The Equilibrium Test shows the highest coal conversion of approximately 86 wt% of the MAF coal (based on the solubility in the tetrahydrofuran) at the 50% tetralin concentration. The Kinetic Test shows lower coal conversion. The hydrogen transferred to the coal from the tetralin in the Equilibrium Test at the 50 wt% tetralin feed concentration is approximately 0.5 wt% of the MAF coal. In the Kinetic Test 50 wt% tetralin feed concentration results in a much smaller transfer at the short reaction time of 10 minutes. [Pg.197]
