Organic loading rate

The activated sludge process for meat processing wastewater treatment was reported by Annachhatre and Bhamidimarri.37 When a model reactor was operated at an HRT of 5-15 h, a COD removal of more than 85% was achieved. The COD loading for the above performance was 3.2kg COD/(m3d). An SRT of 13 d resulted in almost complete nitrification. El-Gohary et al.30 reported that the activated sludge process reduced the BOD and COD of a potato-chips factory wastewater by 86% and 84%, respectively. The organic loading rate and HRT were reported as 8.9 kg BOD/ (m3d) and 6h, respectively. [Pg.1244]

The BOD removal efficiency of an activated sludge process treating 2000 m /day of condensate waste generated from a synthetic organic chemical plant is 94%. If the organic loading rate and BOD5 of the raw waste are 3.171 kg/m day... [Pg.227]

The COD removal efficiency of a UASB reactor treating pharmaceutical wastewater is 96% at an organic loading rate of 0.5 kg COD/m /day. If the plant generates 33,800 GPD wastewater with a COD concentration of 1000 mg/L and the depth of reactor is restricted to 3 m, estimate (a) the size of the UASB reactor (b) the HRT and (c) the specific gas production rate assuming a methane yield of 0.3 m /kg CODr. [Pg.229]

In Figure 47, the percentage of dissolved COD removed is plotted versus the specific COD load , also called organic loading rate (OLR), defined as the COD input (in grams of COD per day) per unit of reactor volume (in liters). As the reactor volume was 9.5 liters (both the residence time and the specific COD load are referred to the empty reactor), a... [Pg.94]
