Spurious attribution

Spurious Attribution—The tendency towards spurious attribution on which the putative deviation is built, stems directly from the inventory. This tendency is not only present in popular statements but in more informed attitudes and also, as Matza has convincingly suggested, in the image of the delinquent held by contemporary criminologists. In all cases, the function of the spurious attribution is the same to support a particular theory or course of action. [Pg.53]

Virtually every court report quoted Dr Simpson s Sawdust Caesars speech in full and his terminology significandy influenced the mass media symbolization and the process of spurious attribution. His phrases were widely used as headlines Sawdust Caesars hunt in pack, says magistrate Clamp down on Mods and Rockers - A Vicious Virus, says J.P. Town Hits Back on Rat Pack Hooligans , etc. [Pg.118]

In general, an appreciable retention or parent yield is found, which may vary from 5-6% up to 60-70%. Occasional lower or higher values can usually be attributed to spurious reactions. The yields of other products is usually somewhat lower. In some target compounds no other stable product is expectable, as in FeCpj, Cr(CO)6, Ni(CO)4, Cr(C(jH6)2. In other cases. [Pg.216]

This spurious contribution could be attributed to the presence of boron nuclei in the metallized wafer. Boron is present in nature with two stable isotopes (10B, nB), one having nuclear spin 3/2 and abundance of 80.3%, and the other nuclear spin 3 and abundance of 19.7%. The nuclei have non-zero electric quadrupole moments. [Pg.302]

Invariants and postconditions focused on type A use only some subset of the attributes of B, an attribute (or association) of A (see Figure 14.5) put the unused attributes in a subtype of B. (This reduces spurious dependency.)... [Pg.585]

In a work attributed to Albertus Magnus, but which is probably spurious, we are told that Alexander the Great found the tomb of Hermes in a cave near Hebron. This tomb contained an emerald table — "The Smaragdine Table" — on which were inscribed the following thirteen sentences in Phoenician characters —... [Pg.36]

The celebrated Dominican, Thomas Aquinas (see plate 8), was probably a pupil of Thomas Albertus Magnus, from whom it is thought he imbibed alchemistic learning. It is very probable, however, that the alchemistic works attributed to him are spurious. The... [Pg.39]

We have found that rigorous sorbent pretreatment procedures (e.g., Soxhlet extraction and thermal desorption) in concert with a well-established quality control program will successfully control potential contamination effects arising from the sample collection media. Furthermore, a well-executed quality control program will permit identification of spurious data points attributable to media contamination when and if they do occur. [Pg.264]

That is an evidence of the spurious character of the contribution that can be attributed to free charges coming from impurities or the remainder of the solvent or initiator. [Pg.136]

Valencia. He was a prolific writer, although, as with many of the great names in alchemy, some of the works attributed to him are spurious. He travelled widely and is perhaps the most important exponent of medical alchemy before Paracelsus. He is known to have treated Popes Clement V and Boniface VIII, although he was briefly imprisoned in Paris for his unorthodox (i.e. strongly magical and Kabbalistic) views on the Trinity. He is said to have possessed an elixir that aided rejuvenation and longevity. [Pg.116]
