In an attempt to combine band-Uke charge carrier motion realized in an -inevitably fragile - crystalline FET structure with structural robustness and flexibility, Sakanoue and Sirringhaus [167] prepared FETs using spin coated films of 6,13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl)(TIPS)-pentacene films in contact with a perfluorinated, low dielectric-constant polymer gate electrode. Both writing and recording were accomplished by two-photon excitation of a spin-coated film containing fluorene 3, the photoacid generator, and polystyrene or, alternatively, in which writing was accomphshed by xy scans... 

The 3-borylbithiophene derivatives 9-14 show intense fluorescence not only in solution, but also in the solid state. The decrease in the 0F value of the spin-coated film relative to that of the THF solution is within 20% for 9 and 10-12 and about 33% and 21% even for the orange-emissive 13 and red-emissive 14, respectively. No significant difference in the fluorescence spectra of the THF solution and the spin-coated film, in terms of both the emission maximum (FWHM), is observed for all the compounds. 

Sekkat et al. 93 have investigated the photobehavior under polarized light of spin-coated films obtained from a hairy-rod poly(L-glutamate) with azobenzene in the side chains (Scheme 11, compound XIX). It is known 96,971 that, in the presence of a linearly polarized pump light beam, azo molecules experience a cycle of photoisomerization reactions and align themselves perpendicularly to the pump beam polarization direction. For the above polypeptide it was shown that, in the trans cis photoisomerization cycle, the created cis state is aligned perpendicularly to the polarization of the pump beam. 95 ... 

Moreover, the same term was recently used for small cellulose patches formed as parts of open spin-coat films produced from low-concentration trimethylsilylcellulose solutions and by subsequent heterogeneous desilyla-tion of the primary formed silylcellulose layers under cellulose regeneration [5]. 

It is well known that solid-state LECs exhibit a significant response time since electroluminescence can only occur after the ionic double-layers have been built up at the electrode interfaces [79,82]. Since in this case only the PFg anion is mobile, the double-layers are formed by accumulation and depletion of PFg at the anode and cathode, respectively. The LEC device with 45 started to emit blue-green light at a bias of 5 V after several minutes. The electroluminescence spectrum, as shown in Fig. 36 (trace a), is very similar to the photoluminescence spectrum recorded for a spin-coated film on glass and of a solution of the complex.
