When the internal design pressure of a container exceeds 15 psig (101.3 kPa), it is called a pressure vessel. The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is one of the primary standards used throughout the world to ensure safe storage vessels. Various substances, such as ammonia (qv) and many hydrocarbons (qv), are frequently stored in spherically shaped vessels that are often referred to as tanks. Most often the design pressure is 15 psig (101.3 kPa) or above. These are really spherical pressure vessels and fall under the rules of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. Discussion of pressure vessels are available (5,6) these are not covered in detail herein. [Pg.311]

Reduced pressure storage at about 0°C. Usually in insulated, spherical pressure vessels for quantities up to about 2,500 tonnes per sphere. [Pg.209]

The mass scales as the cube of the scaling factor. Suppose we have as our system a spherical pressure vessel. We will bum a propellant inside the vessel and determine the final pressure. In both the model and the prototype (Figure 26.2) we use the same kind of propellant. [Pg.374]

Equations for estimating the f.o.b. purchase costs of spherical pressure vessels, based on just the vessel volume, are included in Table 16.32 for two different pressure ranges. [Pg.550]

Hinkley point is located on the north coast of Somerset on the Bristol Channel, some 8 miles north-west of Bridgewater. The A station consists of two reactors housed in steel spherical pressure vessels of 67 ft diameter, made of plates 3 in. thick. Each reactor has six boilers. Generating plant consists of six 3.5 MW turbo alternators and three 33 MW turbo alternators to provide auxiliary supplies. Total output of the station is 500 MW, which is fed into the 75 kV Supergrid system running between Melksham and Taunton. [Pg.30]

In non-refrigerated pressure vessels-perhaps cooled by water spray and/or painted with reflecting paint. The storage pressure corresponds to ammonia vapour pressure at ambient temperature. The storage vessels, often referred to as bullets , are usually cylinders capacity is generally low, below about 2001. Non-refrigerated spherical pressure vessels with capacities up to 15001 ammonia have been used [833]. [Pg.303]
