Specific precipitation efficiency

FIG. 17-69 Design curves for electrostatic precipitators for fly ash. Collection efficiency for various levels of percent sulfur in coal versus a) specific collecting surface, and (h) bus sections per 100,000 ftVmin (4.7 mVs). °C = (°F — 32) X (Ramsdell, Design Criteria for Precipitators for Modern Central Station Power Plants, Amen c m Power Conference, Chicago, III., 1968. )... [Pg.1614]

Fabric filters can be more costly to operate and maintain than electrostatic precipitators, cyclones, and scrubbers however, fabric filters are more practicable for filtration of specific dusts. For example fabric systems are the typical control method for toxic dusts from insecticide manufacturing processes, salt fumes from heat treating, metallic fumes from metallurgical processes, and other applications. Any other control method may not be as efficient, nor economically feasible for such applications. [Pg.341]

No plant-specific identification number was available for this facility. The wastewater from Plant B contains pollutants from both metals processing and finishing operations. It is treated by precipitation-settling followed by filtration with a rapid sand filter. A clarifier is used to remove much of the solids load. Table 5.14 summarizes the data on pollutant removal efficiency at Plant B. [Pg.216]

To determine the efficiency of aminoacylation of [14C]Phe-tRNA, 5 fil aliquots of the aminoacylation mixture are withdrawn before and after the reaction the samples taken from the reaction mixture at the end of the incubation are spotted onto 3-MM paper discs (Schleicher Schuell) and processed by the cold TCA precipitation method, while the sample taken before the reaction is spotted on a paper disc pretreated empty by the same cold TCA procedure. Determination of the radioactivity present on these filters by liquid scintillation counting allows one to calculate the aminoacylation efficiency of the reaction (which, for phenylalanine, should be >2% of total tRNA). The specific activity of the [14C] Phe-tRNA can be determined after one-step purification of Phe-tRNA by BD cellulose chromatography (Gillam et al., 1968), followed by determination of the radioactivity and of the A260. [Pg.269]

A coal combustion pilot plant is used to obtain efficiency data on the collection of particulate matter by an electrostatics precipitator (ESP). The ESP performance is varied by changing the surface area of the collecting plates. Figure E2.2 shows the data collected to estimate the coefficients in a model to represent efficiency 17 as a function of the specific collection area A, measured as plate area/volumetric flow rate. [Pg.42]
