The concept of thermal desorption modulation (TDM) finally found its own specific area of application as the essential interface device between the two columns of a comprehensive two-dimensional separation system [28]. Both texts provide a valuable source of references to original literature. An older text is the book by Wendlandt which like the Handbook is not restricted to DTA and DSC but nevertheless contains an enormous amount of information. Other texts are available which deal with specific areas of application food, " materials,petroleum analysis,pharmaceuticals and polymers. ...

Conductivity sensors A very significant parameter that gives a measure of the concentration of ions in industrial process streams is conductivity. The continuous measurement of conductivity in process streams is a common practice in the monitoring of boiler feed water, brackish water, demineralization, industrial process media, municipal and industrial wastewater, surface waters, and water treatment. Specific areas of application for conductivity sensors include control of drinking water and ultrapure water quality, determination of nonspecific contaminants, monitoring of salt load in wastewater... 

The terms microprocessor and microcontroller (or microcontroller unit— MCU) can be confusing. Both find their uses in real time applications and share many common features, yet these two are neither the same, nor are they really used for the same type of applications. Currently, another solid state device, FPGA, came into the real time application field to further increase these apparent confusions. However, once somebody looks into all these a little more closely, then it becomes clear that each of these have specific areas of application in real time. Prior to going into each topic separately, the confusions will be eliminated. In order to do so, the differences between these devices will be discussed first. 

The software policy should include standard packages for the company in specific areas of application. The selection of software should conform to the key criteria of user requirements, systans requirements, supplier profile and software support. The earlier examples of applications software were relatively inflexible and the approach was systematize the customer rather than customize the systan . Many disillusioned customers attempted to build their own software and burnt their fingers in the process. In the present climate the software tools have become flexible, the IT is advancing rapidly, competitive expert support is provided by specialist software houses and thus it is prudent to buy appropriate software rather than to develop your own (see Eigure 17.9). The software should conform to open systems requirements and the supplier should be both reputable and locally available for support. The company should also build up its own IT support staff, especially a user support service. 

This variety of polymeric building blocks can be used to tailor the properties of a polymer to the specific areas of application. They can be used for adhesives, coatings, molded goods and reinforced plastics. If the latter are made with natural fibers e.g. - flax, - hemp and - sisal as reinforcement, almost totally RR-based products are accessible (- fiber reinforced molded goods). All these products have the benefit of being based on renewable resources they are biodegradable, can be recycled and have an unlimited availabilty.
