Solvent cleaning laminates

Surface cleaning is critical and depending on the choice of adhesive, can include solvent cleaning, application of a primer, surfaee abrasion and peel of the ply embedded in the laminate. [Pg.943]

Analytical studies of the PVC profile surface indicated that the reasons for failure of the adhesive bond between the PVC film and PVC profile in decorative film laminated structures, was finely dispersed lubricant and wax particles on the PVC profile. These contaminants prevented the build-up of bond forces at the interface between the adhesive and PVC profile. A biodegradable alkaline cleaning agent was developed to remove the contaminants, which, when combined with flame treatment and a solvent free polyurethane hot melt... [Pg.98]

The increasing amount of research in waterborne systems should some day overcome technological difficulties. Howeverr the change-over from some solvent-borne to waterborne systems has presented difficulties (107), for exampler poor coating quality, excessive foam, insufficient water resistance, and even some corrosion and clean-up problems. Despite the problems, some waterborne systems have already been adopted for the manufacture of PSA s, contact adhesives, laminating adhesives, and wood adhesives. However, few applications of the waterborne systems as structural adhesives, especially as aerospace structural adhesives have been found. [Pg.37]

ProLastin film specimens for implantation w ere produced from five SELP compositions and denatured collagen protein (DCP) using identical solvent evaporation methods. Bovine collagen w as obtained from Colla-Tec, Inc. (Plainsboro, New Jersey, fibrillar form, lot number 921101). It w as completely solubilized in 88% formic acid producing a clear but viscous solution. After drying, the films W ere laminated onto clean polyethylene and 1.3 cm diameter discs w ere punched out. The specimens were sterilized by electron beam irradiation at 2.5 Mrads. [Pg.406]

Ex. 1. Tuftane film is ideally suited for bonding emblems, numerals, and letters to many fabrics by heat and pressure alone. It also flame-bonds well to both polyester- and polyether-urethane foams at commercial bonding speeds. Since it contains no volatiles it does not require cure times as do solvent- or water-based adhesive systems. All Tuftane films can be adhered thermally by hot bar, thermal impulse, ultrasonic, or dielectric methods over a wide range of temperatures. Adhesive lamination to many substrates is possible by the heated drum, curing oven, or multiple can methods. Fabric bonds made with Tuftane are strong and withstand laundering and dry cleaning. [Pg.373]
