Fire extinguishing systems can include foam, carbon dioxide and dry chemical. Wetting agents and high e.xpansion foam have been used in some plant protection systems. All fire extinguishing systems should be evaluated for the potential health risks as well as overall effectiveness before incorporation into a plant.

Naphthalenesulfonic acids are important chemical precursors for dye intermediates, wetting agents and dispersants, naphthols, and air-entrainment agents for concrete. The production of many intermediates used for making a2o, a2oic, and triphenylmethane dyes (qv) involves naphthalene sulfonation and one or more unit operations, eg, caustic fusion, nitration, reduction, or amination. 

In tanneries, sodium bisulfite is used to accelerate the unhairing action of lime. It is also used as a chemical reagent ia the synthesis of surfactants (qv). Addition to alpha-olefins under radical catalyzed conditions yields sodium alkylsulfonates (wetting agents). The addition of sodium bisulfite under base-catalyzed conditions to dialkyl maleates yields the sulfosucciaates.

An EB-curable struetural adhesive formulation usually eonsists of one or more crosslinkable oligomeric resins or prepolymers, along with such additives as reactive diluents, plasticizers, and wetting agents. Oil-base muds are composed of oil as the continuous phase, water as the dispersed phase, emulsifiers, wetting agents, and gellants. There are other chemicals used for oil-base mud treatment such as degellants, filtrate reducers, weighting agents, etc. 

If a displacement reaction is to take place uniformly, the surface of A/j should be chemically clean initially in addition, a wetting agent may be employed in the plating solution.

Formulations of chlorpyrifos include emulsifiable concentrates, wettable powders, granules, pellets, microencapsulates, and impregnated materials. Suggested diluents for concentrates include water and petroleum distillates, such as kerosene and diesel oil. Carrier compounds include synthetic clays with alkyl/aryl sulfonates as wetting agents (Table 14.1). Little information is available to assess the influence of various use formulations on toxicity, dispersal, decomposition, and bioavailability.
