While the proposition that environmental and social issues are business issues still strikes some as a novel perspective, increasing numbers of business leaders and investors understand that this is the case. Social and environmental issues can be seen as market forces. The following framework, shown in Figure 8.28, helps explain this in the same terms an analyst would use to understand any market force and how it affects the prospects of a business.

As awareness and scientific understanding of the environmental and social issues facing the ATs industry has expanded, stakeholders within the apparel industry have developed various tools and indices for measuring different aspects of sustainability within the supply chain. Two of the first leading tools were the Outdoor Industry Association s Eco Index (OIA, 2014) and Nike s Apparel Environmental Design Tool (Nike, 2010), both of which evolved into the Sustainable Apparel Coalition s (SAC) Higg Index. 

On the whole, politicians respond to their nnderstanding of what the people who elected them want or will accept as policy on social issues, coloured very strongly by the perceived cost of the options before them. The issues that, according to these authors, should be included in research conducted in order to reach an understanding of the holistic nature of culture-bound syndromes are as follows identifying the nature of the phenomenon, situating the syndrome within the social context, the relation between the syndrome and the psychiatric disorders included in current classifications, and the social and psychiatric history of the syndrome. By following these steps it will be possible to correctly identify the phenomenology and subtypes of the syndrome, the social characteristics of the people who suffer from it and the risk factors, as well as to study the relation with other psychiatric disorders and even other syndromes that are specific to other cultures. 

Although it has received the most attention, CBT is not the only form of psychotherapy that is effective for depression. Other psychological treatments include interpersonal psychotherapy, short-term psychodynamic therapy and non-directive supportive therapy. Interpersonal psychotherapy focuses on problems that arise in interpersonal relationships, such as marital conflict, the loss of a loved one and social isolation.20 Short-term psychodynamic therapy focuses on acquiring insight and understanding of unresolved conflicts arising from the person s childhood. It is based on Freud s psychoanalytic theory, but requires only months, rather than the years it takes for a full psychoanalysis.21 Non-directive supportive therapy provides a warm, supportive atmosphere in which the depressed person can explore life issues...
