As awareness and scientific understanding of the environmental and social issues facing the ATs industry has expanded, stakeholders within the apparel industry have developed various tools and indices for measuring different aspects of sustainability within the supply chain. Two of the first leading tools were the Outdoor Industry Association s Eco Index (OIA, 2014) and Nike s Apparel Environmental Design Tool (Nike, 2010), both of which evolved into the Sustainable Apparel Coalition s (SAC) Higg Index. [Pg.220]

All industrial processes release dusts other than soot. There are many sources and forms including fuel ash, metal oxide fumes and silica and releases tend to be localized. Fugitive emissions from outdoor industrial activity or processes associated with the mining and preparation of raw materials can generally be controlled through careful industrial practice. Water is often used to minimize dust raised, resulting in the transfer of an atmospheric pollution problem to one of either aquatic or solid waste. [Pg.259]

Embedded lead users are employees who have lead user characteristics toward their own firm s products and services. Lead user characteristics are positively related to innovativeness in a certain domain. The link between lead userness and innovativeness has also been established empirically Franke et al. [2006] support this notion in the domain of kitesurfing. They argue that deriving benefits from solutions is especialiy associated with the iikeiihood to innovate, whereas being ahead of the trend affects both iikeiihood to bring out innovations and the attractiveness of innovations. Luthje (2004) finds a positive relationship between being an innovative user and benefitUng from new products in the outdoor industry. [Pg.119]

Storage of liquid materials in a typical process industry is carried out in tanks classified as spherical or vertical and horizontal cylindrical. Since safety is an important consideration in storage tank design, the National Fire Protection Association and the American Petroleum Institute publish rules for safe design and operation. Vertical tanks are most commonly used for outdoor storage for such materials as petroleum products. Water towers are typical of elevated vertical tank outdoor construction. They are used for maintaining a uniform head of water to store water for temporary emergencies and for fire protection. Hori-... [Pg.541]
