Skin inflamation

SYMPTOMS - After 4 to 6 hours, inflammation of the eyes, blistered or ulcerated skin, inflamed nose, throat and lungs. Temporary blindness which may last for weeks. Blisters are very slow healing. 

Heat rash A rash that appears as small red spots on hot, moist skin. The spots are inflamed sweat glands.

For the topical treatment of some chronic inflammatory skin diseases (like atopic dermatitis) immunosuppressive macrolides (like TRL and pimecrolimus) that permeate the inflamed epidermis are of benefit for patients. Severe side effects comparable to those after systemic application of TRL in transplanted patients (see above) have not been observed so far. For the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris these drugs are less effective. The CD2 antagonist alefacept may be a suitable alternative to allergic reactions. 

Topical corticosteroids exert localized anti-inflamma-toiy activity. When applied to inflamed skin, they reduce itching, redness, and swelling. These drugs are useful in treating skin disorders, such as psoriasis, dermatitis, rashes, eczema, insect bite reactions, and first-and second-degree burns, including sunburns.

Siould not be taken for more than 3-7 days. 

As an acne treatment, resorcinol has a keratolytic effect—it causes dead skin cells to slough off—which removes the top layer of skin and unclogs pores. It is often used with sulfur, to prevent the whiteheads and blackheads that may be a side effect when sulfur is used to treat inflamed pimples.

Vulnerary. Elder is an effective remedy for relieving hemorrhoids when applied topically as a salve. SYSTEMIC EFFECTS Occurs primarily through inhalation and ingestion. The T vapor or aerosol is less toxic to the skin or eyes than the liquid form. When inhaled, the upper respiratory tract (nose, throat, tracheae) is inflamed after a few hours latency period, accompanied by sneezing, coughing and bronchitis, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fever, and apathy. Exposure to nearly lethal doses of T can produce injury to bone marrow, lymph nodes, and spleen as indicated by a drop in white blood cell (WBC) count and, therefore, results in increased susceptibility to local and systemic infections. Ingestion of T will produce severe stomach pains, vomiting, and bloody stools after a 15-20 minute latency period.

An interesting way in which individuals differ in their response to alcohol is the reaction when a small amount (0.03 cc.) of 60 per cent alcohol is injected into the skin. 11 In all individuals there is produced a localized wheal about 1 cm. in diameter, but the reaction in the surrounding area varies greatly from individual to individual. The stratum corneum plays a critical role in determining cutaneous permeability. Absorption is faster through skin that is abraded or inflamed. Chemicals that are not normally considered hazardous may be dangerous to individuals suffering from active inflammatory dermatoses.
