Siloxane PMMA copolymer

As expected for two-phase polymer systems, two glass transitions are detected for thermoplast grafted elastic siloxane particles by means of thermal analysis (DSC, DMTA) [10]. In Table 1, glass transition temperatures of elastic siloxane graft copolymer particles with different crosslink densities (1-20 mol% T units) and distinct thermoplastic shells (PMMA, PS) are listed. [Pg.679]

The TG profiles of vinyl triethoxy silane-methyl methacrylate (VTES-MMA) copolymers in N2 have been reported to be similar to that of PMMA [a.l85]. However, the initial decomposition temperature (IDT) of the copolymers decreased with increasing VTES content in the copolymer. This behaviour was attributed to the decrease in the molecular weight of these copolymers during degradation. A similar tendency for TG was also reported for styrene-siloxane block copolymers synthesised with a living anionic initiator [a.l86]. [Pg.109]

Dawkins and Taylor109 dispersed poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) or polystyrene (PS) particles in n-alkanes stabilized by AB block copolymers of styrene and dimethyl-siloxane. In these cases, styrene blocks act as anchors and dimethylsiloxane blocks give a surface layer. The thickness 6 of the dimethylsiloxane layer was determined by viscosity measurements as a function of the molecular weight of dimethylsiloxane blocks. [Pg.53]

The diameters of the particles, prepared from dispersion, are approximately 120 nm each. The powder morphology of spray-dried PMMA grafted siloxane particles is illustrated in Fig. 3a the spherical agglomerates are approximately 1-20 pm in size. The microstructure of the graft copolymer after processing is shown in Fig. 3b. [Pg.677]

The use of an intennediate barrier layer to vary the penetration depth in an ATR experiment was used in probing concentration profiles away from the interface. Application of this technique in the study of PMMA/ PDMS graft copolymers deposited onto a copper oxide surface indicated a preferential presence of the siloxane component at the oxide interface a concentration gradient was observed to decrease with increasing distance into the bulk of the sample film (275). [Pg.26]

Common polymers used for blending with PEO include PMMA, polystyrene, poly(vinyl alcohol), poly(vinyl acetate), PPO, poly(2-vinyl pyridine), polyacrylamide (PAAM), styrene-butene block copolymer, and polyacrylate. In these blending systems, LiC104 can form complexes with PEO, attaining ionic conductivities of up to 10 S/cm at room temperature, such as obtained by the blend of PEO with the so-called Flemion polymer, which also shows good mechanical performance. The blend of PEO with a modified natural rubber, which has a low Tg, can attain an ionic conductivity of 10 -10 S/cm. The ionic conductivity of an amorphous array obtained by mixing polyure-thane/siloxane with PEO is also greatly improved. [Pg.367]

Progress which has been made in the use of MALDI mass spectroscopy to provide reliable molec.wt. and MWD values is reported. Molec.wt. averages and MWD of polydisperse samples (PMMA, siloxanes, polyesters and copolyesters) were obtained by off-line coupling of SEC equipment with the MALDI mass spectrometer. SEC traces of the samples were recorded, selected fractions were analysed by MALDI-TOF and the average molec.wts. of the fractions were determined from the mass spectrum. A method for analysing unknown copolymers, which involves the use of Markoffian statistics, is also presented. 26 refs. [Pg.92]
