Marija Pergal, MSc, works at the Department for Polymeric Materials, Institute for Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy since 2003 as Research Scientist. Since 2007 she is also Teaching Assistant for the course Chemistry of Macromolecules at Department of Chemistry, University of Belgrade. Her research interests are focused on synthesis and characterization of siloxane homopolymers and copolymers, especially thermoplastic elastomers based on poly(butylene terephthalate) and polyurethanes, as well as polyurethane networks based on hyperbranched polyester. In addition to physico-chemical, mechanical and surface properties of polymers, her particular interest is directed towards the study of biocompatibility of polymer materials. [Pg.559]

Recently, as a further recognition of the importance of multiphase copolymers in specialty applications, siloxane containing block and segmented copolymers have received special attention for applications such as biomaterials, photoresists, gas separation membranes, protective coatings, elastomers and emulsifiers, as we shall... [Pg.27]

The most common method of preparation of PMTFPS is through the base-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization of the corresponding cyclic trimer.61-62 Details are in Section 2.11.1. A specific cure site for peroxide curing is developed by incorporating 0.2 mol% of methylvinyl siloxane.63 Typically, fluorosilicone elastomers are copolymers of 90 mol% of trifluoropropylsiloxy and 10 mol% of dimethylsiloxy monomers, but the fluorosilicone content in commercial products ranges from 40 to 90 mol%.63... [Pg.114]

Hydrosilylation can also be carried out between a silicone elastomer and a non-silicone one to yield a hybrid IPN. Arkles [ 154] worked with such a system the silicone containing hydride groups and the unsaturations supplied by polymers such as polybutadiene or copolymers of butadiene. These hybrid systems do not perform as well as siloxane semi-IPNs due to the fact that silicone is partially lost. [Pg.139]

Jl hermally stable elastomers and polymers include fluorocarbon elastomers, polyorganophosphazenes, silicone elastomers, siloxane block copolymers (including the dodecacarborane block copolymers [Dexsil elasto-... [Pg.309]

Polysiloxanes, [-O-Si(RR )-], are linear resins that can be branched or crosslinked into elastomers. They have high compressibility, permeability to gases, low T and viscosity, exceptional weather-ability, low surface tension coefficient and are relatively expensive. Siloxane polymers or copolymers have been incorporated into engineering or specialty resins to improve processability, toughness, HDT, solvent and weather resistance. [Pg.80]

A rubbery/crystalline combination consisting of poly(dimethyl siloxane)/poly(diphenyl siloxane). The crystalline, high-melting diphenyl siloxane blocks alternate with rubbery dimethyl siloxane blocks, and the resulting copolymer behaves like a thermoplastic elastomer. [Pg.169]

MAJOR APPLICATIONS Ring-Opening polymerization of small rings to give linear PDMS high polymers. Copolymerization with other siloxane small rings to give copolymers of controlled composition. Both the homopolymer and copolymers are widely used as silicone fluids, elastomers, and resins. [Pg.436]

PDMS is relatively weak and stands to benefit most from reinforcement. PDMS is easily absorbs the precursor materials generally used in the sol-gel process. Nearly monodisperse silica microparticles can be obtained using siloxane elastomer mixtures. In some cases, the PDMS has been part of a copolymer, with ureas, imides, amideimides, ° and diani-lines. In other approaches, the particle surface is modified, for example, with a polysiloxane. Siloxane/silica nanocomposites have also been used as culture-stone-protective materials. ... [Pg.217]

Block copolymers containing polysiloxane segments are of great interest as polymeric surfactants and elastomers. Polycondensation and polyaddition reactions of functionally ended prepolymers are usually employed to prepare well-defined block copolymers. The living polystyrene anion reacts with a,co-dichloropoly(dimethyl-siloxane) to form multiblock copolymers398. ... [Pg.35]
