Silicone rubber composites applications

Vulcanisation of conductive silicone rubber compositions is, like conventional silicone rubber, by peroxide. However inhibition of dichlorobenzoyl peroxide by carbon blacks makes it necessary to use an alternative curing technique, i.e. hydrosilylation or addition curing, for hot-air vulcanisation. Applications for conductive or antistatic silicone rubber include ... [Pg.211]

On the other hand, silicones are used in organic composites. The application of alloys composed of the fully cured silicone rubber particles in a continuous thermoplastic phase, called thermoplastic silicone vulcanizate, which offers high-performance materials, has been reported.506,507 Functionalized POSS was not only co-polymerized, but also blended with poly(methylmethacrylate) to study the effect of silsesquioxanes on the thermal stability of thermoplastics.508... [Pg.679]

Processing requirements for thermoset composites, with specific examples of silicones, were recently reported.514 Composites based on the low molecular weight polysiloxanes for medical applications have been reviewed (in Russian).515 Silicone rubber/hydrogel composites have been evaluated for medical applications.516... [Pg.679]

The types of polymeric membranes that have attracted much interest for analytical applications and are nowadays in common use are characterized as nonporous membranes such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE), dense PP and PDMS silicone rubbers, and asymmetric composite membranes... [Pg.75]

Other reported TG-FTIR applications concern polyesterurethane [160], silicone rubber [86, 33], ABS [161], synthetic rubbers used in the automotive industry [38] and the determination of butadiene and styrene in unknown composites [162],... [Pg.25]

To summarize the points discussed, silicone rubbers are innovative. An example of this are inserts in LSR showerheads which do not become blocked and can be produced cost-effectively in the injection-molding process as composite elements with thermoplastic nylon 6.6 30 % glass fiber. Silicone rubbers, however, are also high performance, and this is evident particularly in the many applications where they have been used for years at high temperatures, for exsample seals in irons or other domestic appliances. And not least, silicone rubbers are also efficient. An example of this molds for prototyping without which cost-effective production of individual items would not in fact be possible. [Pg.708]

Hydrosilylation cross-linking of silicone rubber has been increasingly used in rubber manufacture because of many technological and economic advantages (7). The composition and proportion of both polysiloxane components and the catalyst used determine the quality of the vulcanizate and in particular allow obtaining materials of given properties and for special applications. [Pg.1309]

Ceramizable (ceramifiable) silicone rubber-based composites are fire resistant materials developed especially for cable covers application. In case of fire, electrical installations are endangered of short circuit effect which can deactivate lots of important devices, like fire sprinklers, elevators, fire alarms or lamps indicating route to emergency exits. Ceramizable composites are able to sustain functioning of electric circuit on fire and high temperature up to 120 min by producing ceramic, porous layer protecting copper wire inside a cable. [Pg.92]

Silicone rubbers, both, peroxide and addition curing, are used in the manufacture of composite parts. Known applications focus on automotive, medical, sanitary, household, transmission and distribution (T D), electronics and food appliances. [Pg.290]

Typical applications for silicone HTV and LR rubber composite parts are ... [Pg.290]

Such applications are widely used across all fields which use silicone rubbers. The technique is quite simple. In the first step a tubing or a moulding is cured to an incomplete degree of curing. This is achieved by curing at a lower temperature or too short a curing time for complete vulcanisation. These parts are then inserted into another silicone cavity (HTV or LR) and coated with the silicone rubber. It is advisable to make silicone-silicone composites from silicone rubbers with only one curing system. In other words, a peroxide... [Pg.308]

Commercial interpenetrating polymer networks (not including thermoplastic compositions) include artificial teeth (Dentsply) made Ifom crosslinked PMMA mixed with MMA monomer and polymerized (sequential IPN), sound and vibration damping compositions (e.g., vinyl-phenolic Hitachi) and sheet molding compositions (acryhc/urethane/polystyrene Ferro Chemical) [164]. Water-borne acrylic methane semi-IPNs are commercial Ifom several sources where acrylate monomers are polymerized in the presence of a polymethane water dispersion. A silicone/polytetrafluoroethylene composition described as an IPN is offered by Biomed Sciences under the Silon tradename. The fluoropolymer provides the mechanical strength and the silicone rubber offers the softness and oxygen and moisture permeability for applications in the wound care area. [Pg.404]

Composite materials employed in outdoor insulating systems are usually compositions of one base polymer and a number of additives, known as fillers. Fillers aim to formulate the composition properties according to the application requirements starting, of course, from the properties of the base polymer. Consequently, for the development of a composite material, both the base polymer and the fillers included have a critical role to play. Further, depending on the anticipated service conditions, an optimum formulation (type and amount of the base polymer and filler) can be determined. In the case of RTV SIR coatings silicone rubber, and especially polythimethylsiloxane, is the base polymer implemented. [Pg.6]

Silicone rubber has been widely used in biomedical applications due to its biocompatibility, nontoxicity and biodurability. Therefore, attempts have been made to further improve the properties of SR by reinforcing it with various inorganic nanofillers [46,189-193]. Zhang eta/. [189] introduced gold nanoparticles in PDMS microfluidic chips and studied its applications in enzyme reactors, immunoassays and biochemical analysis. Recent studies have shown that PDMS-Ag composite exhibits good antibacterial properties... [Pg.105]
