Membranes comprising silicone rubber coated onto polyimides, polyacrylonitrile or other microporous supports membranes are widely used [12,27]. Other rubbers such as ethylene-propylene terpolymers have been reported to have good properties also [28]. Polyamide-polyether block copolymers have also been used for pervaporation of some polar VOCs [29,30]... [Pg.366]

The Compudose implant is available with a thick silicone rubber coating (Compudose-400) and releases estradiol over 400 days, whereas one with a thinner coating (Compudose-200) releases the drag for up to 200 days. [Pg.85]

The silicone rubber-coated and fire-polished electrode to be used has to be filled with an ionic solution. It is very important to cleanse the material to obtain good patches. Electrodes have to be kept free from dust, and all solutions to be used have to be filtered (using a Millipore 0.2 pm filter). The compositon of the electrode solution as well as the chamber bath solution will depend on the particular experiment and on the configuration of the patch that is going to be obtained. The level of the bath solution in the recording chamber is adjusted to be as low as possible, in order to obtain small pipette capacity and, consecutively, low pipette noise. [Pg.541]

MMMpEG = PEG-silicone rubber coated on porous polysulfone ... [Pg.805]

Viji unya also studied the effect of some diol isomers as the liquid fillers in mixed-matrix membranes for gas separation. They incorporated 1,4-butanediol, 1,2-butanediol, 1,3-butanediol, and 2,3-butanediol liquid fillers into silicone rubber coating on top of the porous polysulfone support membrane. Similar to PEG liquid filler, it was found that 1,2-butanediol and 2,3-butanediol could improve propylene over propane selectivity. However, the selectivity of propylene over propane was not enhanced when 1,3-butanediol and 1,4-butanediol were added to silicone rubber. In PEG, the hydroxyl group is attached to each carbon atom on carbon backbones. A portion of 1,2- and 2,3-butanediol molecules are similar to PEG in which the hydroxyl groups are attached to the adjacent carbon atoms. In contrast, the hydroxyl groups in 1,3- and 1,4-butanediol molecules are not attached to the adjacent carbon atoms. Therefore, it was proposed that the position of hydroxyl groups of the butanediols plays an important role for the improvement of propylene over propane selectivity. [Pg.806]
