The shrinkage in demand has resulted in a restmcturing of the carbon black-industry. Several of the principal multinational oil companies have left the business including Ashland, Cities Service Co., Phillips, and Conoco. Some plants have changed ownership. In the United States this has increased the production capacities of Degussa, Sid Richardson, and Huber. Today s U.S. industry consists of six principal producers. Rated capacities of the six U.S. manufacturers is shown in Table 13. Cabot Corp. and Columbian Chemicals are the leading producers, followed by Degussa, Sid Richardson, J. M. Huber Corp., and Witco. A survey of the future markets and present stmcture of the carbon black industry has been presented (1). [Pg.554]

Ensaco 150,200,250 - carbon black produced in form of powder and granules in process similar to fiimace black but differing in aerodynamic and thermodynamic conditions. No water quenching is used in the process. The resultant material is closer to acetylene black than furnace black. Unique properties of this carbon black are utilized in dry-cell batteries, paint, plastics, and rubber markets. Sid Richardson Carbon Black Company, Fort Worth, TX, USA... [Pg.63]

Viral transformation of Syrian hamster embryo cells has also been found to be facilitated by trivalent antimony compounds (Fowler and Goering 1991). In workers at antimony smelters, an orange-red to yellowish brown discoloration of the tooth surface ( antimony teeth ) has been observed (Bencze 1994). In 1989, attention was drawn to the possible role of antimony in the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) (Richardson 1990). Here, it was postulated that antimony, which was present as a fire retardant in polyvinyl cot mattresses, might be converted by certain molds into tri-... [Pg.665]
