Merchant Shipping Act 1995 and the Merchant Shipping and Fishing Vessels (Medical Stores) Regulations 1995. Medical supplies may be obtained from shipping chemists and general retail pharmacies. 

The Merchant Shipping Act 1995 is an Act to consolidate the Merchant Shipping Acts 1894 to 1994 and other enactments relating to merchant shipping. It is in 13 Parts and covers the registration and operation of British ships and seamen. Part III -Masters and Seamen, contains a section on safety, health and welfare in terms of conditions for crew. Part IV - Safety, contains general guidance on safety and health on ships. The Merchant Shipping and Maritime Security Act (1997) contains miscellaneous amendments of the Merchant Shipping Act (1995) as well as extension of powers to deal with emergencies at sea, pollution control and marine safety and maritime security. The following four categories are based on Class IV, V, and Class VI Passenger Ships and determine which waters are not regarded as sea for the purposes of the regulations made under Section 85 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995.

Although many provisions of various Tides affect transportation. Tides 49 (Transportation) and 46 (Shipping) are of particular iaterest. Among other important statutes iacluded ia Tide 49 are the ICC Termination Act of 1995 ( 10101 et seql), the Department of Transportation Act ( 101 et seql), and the Hazardous Materials Transportation Act ( 5101 et seq.). Tide 46 collects various statutes pertaining primarily to water transportation. 

In 1938 a new law, the Federal Food, Dmg, and Cosmetic Act of 1938 (18), which instituted several new and important practices, was enacted. Fkst, it clearly stated that, henceforth, the use of any uncertified coal-tar color in any food, dmg, or cosmetic shipped in interstate commerce was stricdy forbidden. This restriction appHed regardless of the inherent toxicity of the colorant. In effect, the colorants that could be used were limited, certification became mandatory, and governmental control was extended to the coloring of dmgs and cosmetics. Considerable stray currents can, of course, be caused by dc-driven cranes that load and unload ships where the rails act as the return conductor for the current. The rails run parallel to the harbor basin, quay walls of steel-reinforced concrete or steel piling walls. The team suggested mitigations. For example, the consequences of an ammonia release could be markedly reduced by a reliable and quick-acting water spray system. The probability of damage due to ship collisions could be reduced by a f tor of five by a speed limit of eight knots. Evacuation of the potentially affected is practicable and effective. 

Accidents can occur in many ways. Tliere may be a chemical spill, an explosion, or a runaway reaction in a nuclear plant. Tliere are often accidents in transport trucks overturning, trains derailing, or ships capsizing. Tliere are acts of God such as eartliquakes and storms. It is painfully clear that accidents are a fact of life. Tlie one common tlnead tlirougli all of tliese situations is tliat accidents are rarely expected and, unfortunately, they are frequently mismanaged. 

The Oil Pollution Act of 1961 was primarily concerned witli tlie regulation of the deliberate discharge of oil or oil wastes into Uie water. As a result of Uiis act, Uie owners of transport sliips were to take precautions to minimize Ute effect of pollution. Oily ballast water separators were required on ships, and owners Imd to maintain oil record books. Violators of Uie Oil Pollution Act were subject to fines of not more than 1,000 for improper record keeping.
