Shelter System

Work during the 1960s on the CB Pressurized Pod resulted in the standardization of the M51 Shelter System in 1971. The unit was an easily transportable, pressurized enclosure. It could be air-dropped or towed to provide protection from chemical and biological agents in the field for combat, combat support, and combat service support troops. The M51 was a double-walled, air-inflated, self-supporting shelter and airlock structure. When erected, the shelter was semicircular in cross-section with a maximum inside height of 7.5 ft, with inside dimensions of 15 x 14 ft. An airlock entrance (with a set of double doors at each end) on the front was 11 (1) x 4.2 (w) x 6.7 (h) ft in dimension. The filter and support equipment were mounted on a two-wheeled trailer.186... [Pg.67]

For two-electron systems (He, H2) the method with different orbitals for different electrons was thoroughly discussed at the Shelter Island Conference in 1951 (Kotani 1951, Taylor and Parr 1952, Mulliken 1952). A generalization of this method to many-electron systems has now been given (Lowdin 1954, 1955, Itoh and Yoshizumi 1955) and is called the method with different orbitals for different spins. [Pg.258]

Combustible gas detection for air intakes should be considered when the enclosures are in proximity to hydrocarbon processes. This is especially important when the processes can be demonstrated to be within areas where a WCCE release will not have dissipated at the distance the facility is placed from it. An alternative is to have the air handling system self circulating so it does not direct fresh air supplies in from the outside. Such systems are normally provided at unmanned shelters. [Pg.235]

Everyone should avoid plumes of smoke that may deposit contaminants at larger distances. It would be unfortunate for an individual to safely evacuate from a terrorist attack only to be caught in the open a mile from the attack and exposed to a plume of contaminated smoke. As with the time factor, the best practice is to move quickly from the site of the attack and seek shelter in a building with the heating and air conditioning system either set to recirculate the existing air in the building or turned off. The next step is to wait for authorities to confirm when it is safe to evacuate the area. [Pg.129]

An alarm system for notifying personnel of an emergency in progress and for communicating action required, such as information only, shelter-in-place, or evacuate. This could include bells, sirens, whistles, horns, or public address systems. [Pg.48]

Functional drill The purpose of a functional drill is to test an individual component of the emergency response plan. The drill could test the communication system, emergency operations center, evacuation, or the shelter-in-place plan. 12 months... [Pg.373]

They are considered to be the trees and bushes growing in the saline Intertidal zones of sheltered coastlines. Their root systems are thus regularly inundated with saline water however, dilution by flooding may occur once or twice annually O). Four vascular plants associated with tidal mangrove swamps in Southeast Asia have been utilized by local inhabitants for their toxic properties. The natural sap or aqueous extract from the leaves and bark is used to stupefy fish, as poison for spear and arrow tips, and applied to tooth cavities and skin to deaden aches and pain. [Pg.491]

There has been very little research conducted on the morama bean, largely because it is found in the wild and only consumed by a small percentage of the population in the coimtries where found. However, in these areas, it is used by indigenous communities as a source of food, feed, shelter, and medicine, thus contributing to improve the quality of life in traditional agricultural and forest systems in various ways. The morama has enormous potential value that needs to be exploited for the... [Pg.189]
