This paper summarises an initial feasibility on reeyling scrap automotive plasties and eomposites using a eatalytie conversion process. The eharaeterisationofhydroearbon products is presented for sheet moulding compound (SMC), auto shredder residue (ASR) and reinforeed polypropylene (R-PP) materials and mixtures of body panels. Gas chromatography and scanning electron microscopy is used for the material characterisation. 26 refs. [Pg.44]

Increase viscosity, e.g. magnesium oxide in unsaturated polyester resins increases the viscosity so much that a liquid resin becomes a tackfree solid, suitable for making sheet moulding compound (SMC). A relatively high viscosity is also desirable for latex compounds used to coat textiles. [Pg.785]

ISO 2393 specifies cavity moulds for the compression moulding of sheets and ring test pieces. The sheet mould is specifically intended for providing tensile dumbbells and an alternative size specified is aimed at there being unequivocal positioning of the blank with respect to the grain direction. [Pg.43]

MEASUREMENTS OF properties. Water-leaf handsheets at a basis weight of about 75 g/m were prepared from the BP and UBP pulps using a Williams Standard Sheet Mould. Solubility in hot-l%-sodium hydroxide was determined by TAPPI method T212 om 83. Intrinsic viscosity in cuene (cupraethylenediamine solution) and, therefrom, the DPV were determined according to ASTM Standard D1795. [Pg.55]

Reinforced plastics first became commercially available in the 1940s. Unsaturated polyester reinforced with fibrous glass is the most widely used reinforced plastic today. Chopped glass mats are used for sheet moulding compounds (SMC), bulk moulding compounds (BMC) and hand lay-up composites. [Pg.84]
