Serology primary

In most patients, serologic evidence remains the primary method in the diagnosis of histoplasmosis. Results obtained from complement fixation, immunodiffusion, and latex antigen agglutination antibody tests are used... [Pg.428]

CDC recommendations for serologic follow-up ofpatients treated for syphilis are given in Table 46-6. Quantitative nontreponemal tests should be performed at 6 and 12 months in all patients treated for primary and secondary syphilis and at 6, 12, and 24 months for early and late latent disease. [Pg.513]

Sexually transmitted diseases When treating gonococcal infections in which primary and secondary syphilis are suspected, perform proper diagnostic procedures, including darkfield examinations and monthly serological tests for at least 4 months. Resistance The number of strains of staphylococci resistant to penicillinase-resistant penicillins has been increasing widespread use of penicillinase-resistant penicillins may result in an increasing number of resistant staphylococcal strains. [Pg.1475]

Delayed reactions are difficult to prevent. Incompatibility may not be demonstrable before transfusion, and at the time of the reaction the relevant antibodies may not be detectable. Post-transfusion blood samples must therefore be subjected to repeated serological testing. Delayed reactions usually occur as a result of a secondary anamnestic response within 3-21 days after the transfusion of apparently compatible blood, at a time when the antibody concentration has risen sufficiently to bring about hemolysis of the donor s erythrocytes. A primary immune response can also evoke this kind of reaction (61). [Pg.534]
