Sequential process

Not all chemometric data arise from spectroscopy or chromatography, some are from studying processes evolving over time, ranging from a few hours (e.g. a manufacturing process) to thousands of years (e.g. a geological process). Many techniques for studying such processes are common to Arose developed in analytical instrumentation. 

In some cases cyclic events occur, dependent, for example, on time of day, season of tire year or temperature fluctuations. These can be modelled using sine functions, and are tire basis of time series analysis (Section 3.4). In addition, cyclicity is also observed in Fourier spectroscopy, and Fourier transform techniques (Section 3.5) may on occasions be combined with methods for time series analysis.

With the ArH ArTlX2 Arl reaction sequence available as a rapid and reliable probe for aromatic thallation, a detailed study was undertaken of the various factors affecting orientation in this electrophilic metallation process (153). The complex polymers in feedstuffs are broken down to the constituent building blocks by a sequential process. The pyrolysis of wood, oxygen chemisorption and oxidation of wood chars were carried out in a computerized coupled TG-FTIR system containing Cahn-R-100 electric balance, DuPont Model 990 thermal analyzer and Nicolet MX-1 Fourier transform infrared spectrometer. All of these sequential processes are carried out within the thermal balance without interruption. 

Method validation is carried out to provide objective evidence that a method is suitable for a given application. A formal assessment of the validation information against the measurement requirements specification and other important method performance parameters is therefore required. Although validation is described as a sequential process, in reality it can involve more than one iteration to optimize some performance parameters, e.g. if a performance parameter is outside the required limits, method improvement followed by revalidation is needed.
