During the 1990s, the use of HPLC and 2-(l-pyrenyl)ethyldimethylsilylated silica (PYE) to separate planar compounds has become more and more common, cf. Fig. 3. For example, PCNs and non-orfho-PCBs have been separated from the bulk of PCBs using the PYE column with n-hexane as the mobile phase [8,213]. The PYE phase and similar electron-donor-bonded phases such as 3-(N-carbazolyl)propyl-silyl (CZP) are hitherto the only ones reported to separate 1,2,3,4,6,7-hexaCN (CN-66) and 1,2,3,5,6,7-hexaCN (CN-67) [14,166,167,214,215 ].It is notable that the CZP phase separates 1,2,3,4,6,7-hexaCN (CN-66) and 1,2,3,5,6,7-hexaCN (CN-67) with the opposite elution order compared to the PYE phase [215]. [Pg.109]

HMO theory is named after its developer, Erich Huckel (1896-1980), who published his theory in 1930 [9] partly in order to explain the unusual stability of benzene and other aromatic compounds. Given that digital computers had not yet been invented and that all Hiickel s calculations had to be done by hand, HMO theory necessarily includes many approximations. After the analyzer of a mass spectrometer has dispersed a beam of ions in space or in time according to their various m/z values, they can be collected by a planar assembly of small electron multipliers. Wood Residuals. Chips, sawdust, and other residuals such as planar shavings are used as a primary source of fiber for some pulp mills. Chips are screened and placed in a purchased chip pile. Sawdust and other residuals obtained from wood processing plants must be cooked separately and requite special digesters and handling equipment.
