Sensitivity mechanism

BRs were found to have a rate-sensitive mechanical response with very low tensile and shear strengths [63]. The stress-strain curves of the adhesives were characterized by an initial elastic response followed by a region of large plastic flow. [Pg.653]

There are many applications for silicone adhesives, sealants, or coatings where the condensation curing systems are not suitable. This is because they are relatively slow to cure, they require moisture to cure that can itself be in some cases uncontrollable, and they evolve by-products that cause shrinkage. Adhesives needed in automotive, electronics, microelectronics, micro electromechanical systems, avionic, and other hi-tech applications are usually confined to vei7 small volumes, which can make access to moisture difficult. Also, their proximity to very sensitive mechanical or electronic components requires a system that does not evolve reactive chemicals. [Pg.685]

As noted above, there is experimental evidence to indicate that the carbonyl groups of (vinyl chloride)-(carbon monoxide) copolymers are effective sensitizers for the photodegradation of these materials (9,10,11). A reasonable sensitization mechanism can be formulated for this system on the basis of the information now on hand. [Pg.201]

In the case of ordinary commercial PVC, the importance of carbonyl photosensitization is not entirely clear. Its occurrence is consistent with the reported ability of 2 to retard the initial photodehydrochlorination of PVC itself (9,29). Nevertheless, this evidence is not conclusive, and other work, discussed in the following section, has suggested that another sensitization mechanism predominates with PVC under some conditions, at least. [Pg.201]

Wier It seems reasonable to think that these waves may serve to spike up the phosphorylation of myosin light chain. In combination with the Ca2+ sensitizing mechanisms, this force can be maintained. [Pg.275]

Some fundamental transducers have also been considered to explain intrinsic sensing and sensitivity mechanisms, without disregarding comments on noise which are fundamental to the determination of resolution. [Pg.93]

The behavior of cyclic azo compounds differs considerably from that of the acyclic ones in that spin correlation effects have been seen in several cases. Since singlet decomposition gives a different product distribution than triplet sensitization, these cases provide an elegant test of the sensitization mechanism. [Pg.283]

Dye sensitization plays an important role in photography. The sensitization mechanism for ZnO-materials as used in electro-photography is obviously in complete correspondence with these electrochemical experiments as shown for single crystals under high vacuum conditions by Heiland 56> and for imbedded ZnO-particles by Hauffe 57). Even for silver halides where electron injection as sensitization mechanism has been questioned by the energy transfer mechanism 58> electrochemical experiments have shown that the electron injection mechanism is at least energetically possible in contact with electrolytes 59>. Silver halides behave as mixed conductors with predominance of ionic conductivity at room temperature. These results will therefore not be discussed here in any detail since such electrodes are quite inconvenient for the study of excited dye molecules. [Pg.53]

Throughput of EL3 (see Table I) is limited almost equally by exposure time (current density/resist sensitivity), mechanical stepping and control system speed. Further improvement will require advances in all areas. [Pg.25]

Regulatory sequence 1 is crucial for a tryptophan-sensitive mechanism that determines whether sequence 3 pairs with sequence 2 (allowing transcription to continue) or with sequence 4 (attenuating transcription). Formation of the attenuator stem-and-loop structure depends on events that occur during translation of regulatory sequence 1, which encodes a leader peptide (so called because it is encoded by the leader region of the mRNA) of 14 amino acids, two of which are Trp residues. The leader peptide has no other known cellular function its synthesis is simply an operon regulatory device. [Pg.1095]

Several dyes have been found to sensitize the cationic polymerization of cyclohexene oxide, epichlorohydrin, and 2-chloroethyl vinyl ether initiated by diaryliodonium salts (109,110). Acridinium dyes such as acridine orange and acridine yellow were found to be effective sensitizers. One example of a benzothiazolium dye (setoflavin T) was also reported, but no other class of dye nor any other example of a dye absorbing at longer wavelengths were discovered. Crivello and Lam favored a sensitization mechanism in which direct energy transfer from the dye to the diaryliodonium salt occurred. Pappas (12,106) provided evidence that both energy transfer and electron transfer sensitization were feasible in this system. [Pg.479]

Both fiber-matrix interphase-sensitive mechanical tests (interlaminar shear strength, 90° flexure) and interphase-insensitive tests (0° flexure) were conducted on high volume composite samples fabricated from the same materials and in the same manner as discussed above to see if the interphase and its properties altered the composite mechanical properties and in what manner. A summary of the data is plotted as a bar graph in Fig. 7. The first set of bars represents the difference in fiber-matrix adhesion measured between the bare fibers and the sized fibers by the ITS. The composite properties plotted on the figure also show increased values for the epoxy-sized material over the bare fiber composite. [Pg.524]

Signal transduction was studied most precisely for the 5-HTiA receptor in rat amygdala (Koyama et al. 1999). The receptor operated through a N-methyl maleimide-sensitive mechanism and by adenyl cyclase inhibition rather than any change in K+ or Ca2+ channels. The fall in cyclic AMP presumably was followed by decrease in the phosphorylation of synaptic vesicle proteins and, finally, in a decrease of exocytosis. [Pg.321]

Dr. Martin Pall of Washington State University uncovered the neurological biochemical processes that underlie MCS, and demonstrated a link to processes that are also relevant to chronic fatigue syndrome. He described the increased permeability of the blood-brain barrier as a result of exposure to certain substances and as a result of increased peroxynitrite level. The more this barrier disintegrates, the more chemical substances are able to directly enter the brain and the more sensitive a person becomes. Increased levels of nitric oxide in the body in turn influence the enzymes responsible for breaking down chemical substances (P450 enzyme). He published an article about his model, tide Elevated Nitric Oxide/Per-oxynitrite Theory of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Central Role of N-Methyl-d-Aspartate Receptors in the Sensitivity Mechanism, in Environmental Health Perspectives. It can be read online at www.ehponline.org/members/ 2003/5935/5935.html. [Pg.42]
