Secondary energy sources

The fundamental phases of petroleum production include (1) the initial exploration required to find heretofore undiscovered oil and gas reservoirs (2) primary and secondary recovery methods, which make use of both naturally occurring (or primary) reservoir energy and the application of secondary energy sources, such as the injection of gas or water and (3) enhanced oil recovery used to increase ultimate oil production beyond that achievable with primary and secondary methods. Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods increase the proportion of the reservoir by improving the sweep efficiency, reducing the amount of residual oil in the swept zones (increasing the displacement efficiency), and reducing the viscosity of thick oils.

It is called a secondary energy source because another form of energy is needed to produce the hydrogen fuel. The other form of energy is a primary energy source, such as natural gas, water, coal, or oil.

In Europe, the use of gas control devices is limited to ambient temperatures down to 248 K (-25°C), in special cases down to 233 K (-40 C). For gas supply to our TEG plants, special sealing and membrane materials, steel bodies and noble contacts were purchased in the market and adapted for use in this harsh environment. Thanks to unconventional thermosiphon gas preheater built into the TEG plants and able to heat the gas supplied directly from the gas pipeline, either by flue gas heat or by means of small power electrical heater, which we have developed and fabricated, the TEG plant can be started and operated permanently at the natural gas inlet pressures between 4 and 100 bar without requiring neidier secondary energy source nor additional gas preparation device.
