Scrim coat

Figure 9-2 depicts a typical direct coating unit with scrim coat. This schematic shows a set up utilizing a bed-plate for the application of the pre-coat and a pan for the application of the adhesive scrim coat. Variations of this include a roll over roll for the pre-coat application and a roll over roll or Tillitson application for the adhesive. [Pg.261]

The adhesive scrim coat formulation is similar to the pre-coat with two exceptions. First, since the compound is not frothed, surfactant is ehminated from the formulation. Secondly, since a stronger compound is required for the adhesive coating, filler loading is reduced. Loadings between 350 and 400 parts of filler per 100 parts of dry latex are typical. Table 9-7 is representative of a typical adhesive formulation. [Pg.263]

Another available product has two faces of aluminum foil over a core of glass scrim webbing it is coated with asphalt. The membrane is 0.012 in. thick. This material has not been tested as a barrier against diffusive flow of radon, but its performance should be similar to that of other foil-faced products. Seams are sealed with aluminum tape. [Pg.1285]

There are also other products produced such as foamed vinyl fabrics (Chapter 8). One method of fabrication is to coat a thin layer of solid plastisol on embossed release paper, then coating a thicker coating of foam plastisol and finally layering on a cloth scrim. The composite is... [Pg.502]

PVC plastisols and latexes are involved in the production of many useful products, including protection of scrim glass fabric used for reinforcement of cementitious boards and other products, production of breathable fabrics woven from coated fibers, fiber optics, and production of various articles (e g., fishing lines or tennis racket string) from coated fibers. Some examples are given below. [Pg.181]

All layers with exception of scrim fabric, high performance coating, and print are made out of PVC plastisol or melt (as indicated in the text above). High performance coating is either polyurethane, polyester, or UV curable. [Pg.292]

This flooring is composed of 3 layers interlayer, print layer, and clear layer. The above table gives the formulation of plastisols used in formation of the interlayer and the clear layer. The interlayer is coated on a glass scrim. This flooring... [Pg.300]

The adhesive can be used in the form of a film, scrim or a coating preapplied to one or both adherends, or a ribbon applied to one of the adherends. Liquid adhesives are generally unsatisfactory. Viscoelastic adhesives are particularly suitable. Ultrasonic activation usually increases the bond strength and reduces curing time where it can be employed as an alternative to conventional thermal or drying processes. ... [Pg.201]

Mitsubishi Chemical manufactures a seismic retrofit material Replark and have formed a joint venture with Fiberite in the USA. Replark is a UD carbon fiber tape with low epoxy resin content with a fiberglass scrim backing to facilitate handling in the field. The application entails the preparation of the concrete, application of an epoxy primer, putty and resin, followed by the requisite number of layers of Replark tape and additional resin, to form a cured composite and finally, the application of a surface coat to improve the appearance. Fiberite use type 12k T300 or AS4C carbon fiber and the Replark is offered in areal weights from 175 300 gm . ... [Pg.1030]

Fabric stabilizer n. Resin or latex treatment for scrims used in coated fabric manufacture to stabilize the scrim for further processing. Tortora PG (ed) (1997) Fairchild s dictionary of textiles. Fairchild Books, New York. [Pg.391]

Products fully compatible to form composite systems. Line includes a primer for reintacting damaged paint, a primer for rust or over metal, acrylic caulk, topcoat, and scrim reinforcement fabric. [Pg.252]

Scrim skrim n [origin unknown] (1792) (1) A Kght-weight, open-weave, coarse fabric tbe best qualities are made with two-ply yarns. Cotton scrim usually comes in white, cream, or ecru and is used for window curtains and as backing for carpets. (2) Fabric with open construction used as base fabric in the production of coated or laminated fabrics. [Pg.649]

Over the last few years, direct coating with scrim lock has replaced pan apphcation as the preferred method for back-coating carpet. The major advantages associated with direct coating are ... [Pg.261]

The second compound used in residential carpet coating is referred to as the adhesive scrim or skip coat It is applied by means of a pan and lick roll directly to the secondary backing. This coating provides the strength necessary to sufficiently adhere the secondary backing to the primary backing, which in turn imparts dimensional stability to the carpet. [Pg.263]
