Sifting screens

For all those separation cases, however, which attempt to separate a particle collective according to certain properties of the particulate solids, agglomeration is most often undesired. Techniques for which this statement is true include screening, sifting, classification, sorting, flotation, and, as a general analytical method, particle size characterization. It should also be realized that the respective separation property is not only size it could be density, shape, color, chemical composition, and others. 

During particle size analysis, in addition to screening, sifting, and counting, sedimentation techniques are often used which produce unequivocal results only if the individual particles can move without influencing each other. For that reason, very dilute suspensions are used. Nevertheless, it is possible that agglomerates form or already... 

Screen Analysis of the Substrate. The milled cellulose was screen analyzed in a Ro-Tap Testing Sieve Shaker (The W. S. Tyler Company, Cleveland, Ohio) using a series of 40, 60, 100, 120, 170, 200, and 270 mesh U.S. Standard Screens sifting for 45 min. plus an additional 5 min. after the first weight to check the reproducibility of weights of the screened fractions. Both the weights checked very well. The same procedure was followed in the case of SF, SF-H, SF-HM, SF-MH, and Sweco 70 samples, all of which were subsequently tested. Summary of screen analyses reports is presented in Table II and Figure 9.

The most effective method of preventing caking in chlorate explosives is to manufacture them in granular form. For this purpose various resins (e.g. colophony) or waxes (e.g. Carnauba) are added to the mixture. The moist mass is then rubbed through a sieve and dried. The grains so formed are sifted through screens to separate out the dust. 

The binary mixtures are mixed and milled for 4-6 hr, after which the drum is stopped, the door is opened and the contents are poured out by slow rotation. The balls are retained by screen (4) while the material sifted through screen (5) falls into the tin container (7) which can be hermetically sealed. 

The ivory nut waste was obtained from the Rochester Button Company, Rochester, N. Y. It was ground in a mill, dried to constant weight at ioo°, and sifted through a 20-mesh screen (8 per cm.). 

Screening methods are methods that are used to detect the presence of an analyte or class of analytes at the level of interest. These methods have a high sample thoughput and are used to sift large numbers of samples for potential positives. They are aimed at avoiding false-negative results. 

The Cheddites are manufactured by melting the nitro compounds in the castor oil at 80°, adding little by little the pulverized chlorate dried and still warm, and mixing thoroughly. The mixture is emptied out onto a table, and rolled to a thin layer which hardens on cooling and breaks up under the roller and is then sifted and screened. 

In this chapter, we describe a simple and robust approach for representing and analyzing three-dimensional protein-ligand complexes called SIFt (Structural Interaction Fingerprint) [6, 7]. We will show how this method can be applied to organizing and analyzing the structural information within the protein kinase family and also how this can be applied to virtual screening for inhibitors.
