Screening and Fractionation

Final stage coarse screening machines must handle high trash content On the other hand low fiber loss and high cleanUness efficiency are required. The machine in Fig. 4.18 is not pressurized and operates at a consistency of about 1-4% in the accept Screen hole sizes are about 2 to 4 mm. Rotors fitted with vanes keep the screen clear and transport the debris such as plastics to the outlet During the pass through the machine water sprays support the separation of fibers and debris resulting in a low fiber content in the reject Another type of tail screen (Fig. 4.19) [Pg.164]

Furthermore, 60—100 L (14—24 gal) oil, having sulfur content below 0.4 wt %, could be recovered per metric ton coal from pyrolysis at 427—517°C. The recovered oil was suitable as low sulfur fuel. Figure 15 is a flow sheet of the Rocky Flats pilot plant. Coal is fed from hoppers to a dilute-phase, fluid-bed preheater and transported to a pyrolysis dmm, where it is contacted by hot ceramic balls. Pyrolysis dmm effluent is passed over a trommel screen that permits char product to fall through. Product char is thereafter cooled and sent to storage. The ceramic balls are recycled and pyrolysis vapors are condensed and fractionated. [Pg.94]

Etibank is the sole producer of boron minerals and derivatives in Turkey, which is second in production only to the United States. The open-pit Kirka mine in the Eskisehir Province is the only source of Turkish sodium borate ore. A tincal concentrate is produced from ore that has been blasted and carried in tmcks to the concentration plant. The ore is screened and cmshed to reduce it to —100 mm and then hammer milled to —25 mm. The stockpiled material is further milled and screened to 6 mm. A fraction of +1 mm (+18 mesh, U.S. Standard) is washed and classified to remove fine clay. Clay is removed from the —1 mm faction bypassing it through cyclones and then through a classifier. This material is centrifuged and combined with the washed + 1 mm faction to produce a final product which is a —6 mm concentrate having 6—8 wt % moisture and 32% 2 3 1987 production was... [Pg.201]

Antioxidants may be assessed in a variety of ways. For screening and for fundamental studies the induction period and rate of oxidation of petroleum fractions with and without antioxidants present provide useful model systems. Since the effect of oxidation differs from polymer to polymer it is important to evaluate the efficacy of the antioxidant with respect to some property seriously affected by oxidation. Thus for polyethylene it is common to study changes in flow properties and in power factor in polypropylene, flow properties and tendency to embrittlement in natural rubber vulcanisates, changes in tensile strength and tear strength. [Pg.143]

An understanding of the process of screening requires that ideal screening and actual screening are studied comparatively. The aim of a screen is to receive a feed consisting of a mixture of particles of different sizes and separate it into two fractions, an underflow that is cleared through the screen, and an overflow that is refused by the screen. Either one, or both, of these streams may be a product , and in the presentation that follows no discrimination is made between the overflow and underflow streams. [Pg.163]

The performance of an ideal screen in terms of the screen analysis of the feed is shown in Figure 2.13 (A). The cut point is the point C in the curve. Fraction A comprises all particles bigger than Dpc, and fraction B comprises all particles smaller than Dpc. The fractions A and B are the overflow and underflow respectively. Screen analyses of the ideal fractions A... [Pg.164]

The latter behavior is significant because the P. brevis would be rendered ineffective and ichthyotoxins would presumably not be released from sessile cells. All fractions (Fig. 1) were investigated by Pabon and Martin (25). After initial screening of fractions (Figure 1) for activity, it appeared that sessile-formation activity was associated with first ten fractions (minus cytolytic fraction 7), and further investigation indicated that fraction 4 was responsible for induction of cytolysis (at 500 ppb). Clearly, additional studies are in order, but the evidence of a mechanism that causes an additional disfunction of P. brevis cells is encouraging. [Pg.376]

The mass fraction is calculated by taking the mass of the particles on each screen and dividing by the total mass of the sample, as shown in Equation (15.17) ... [Pg.440]

In general, large particles are separated into size fractions by means of screens, and small particles, which would clog the fine apertures of the screen or for which it would be impracticable to make the openings sufficiently fine, are separated in a fluid. Fluid separation is commonly used for separating a mixture of two materials though magnetic, electrostatic and froth flotation methods are also used where appropriate. [Pg.38]

The ability of feverfew extract to inhibit 5HT-secretion in platelets was used to identify compounds responsible for the inhibitory effects on platelets [44], A crude feverfew extract was separated by chromatography and fractions were screened for antisecretory activity induced by adrenaline. In five active fractions compounds were identified as the sesquiterpene lactones parthenolide (1), canin (19), artecanin (20), secotanapartholide A (24) and 3 8-hydroxyparthenolide (2). The ability of parthenolide to affect platelet activity induced by other agents was confirmed in a study of direct comparison of crude feverfew extract with parthenolide [43], Parthenolide in the micromolar concentration range inhibited platelet 5HT-secretion. [Pg.229]

The low frequency baseline noise of the viscometer can be substantially reduced by careful filtration of samples and regular checking and maintenance of column end fittings and fractional sections of tubing in the system. Figure 5 shows the effect of column screen replacement on the stability of the baseline signal at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. [Pg.286]
