Scouring alkaline agents

Alkaline Wool Scouring — Alkaline wool scouring may be used in place of neutral scouring. In alkaline scouring, soda ash is added to the wash water and subsequently combines with a portion of the wool grease to form namral soap. This procedure reduces the amount of detergent required and reduces the BOD and the concentration of residual surface-active agents. [Pg.238]

Uses Wetting agent, detergent, and hydrotrope in alkaline detergents, metal cleaners, hard surf, cleaners, textile scours wetting agent, emulsifier, rust inhibitor, and EP lubricant in metal lubricants surfactant in dry cleaning soaps, textile lubricants, emulsion polymerization, and pesticide and herbicide formulations Properties Liq, acid no, 150 (to pH 9,5)... [Pg.253]

Generally the treatment of waste water from alkaline scouring/bleaching (peroxide) processes will require an adjustment of pH and temperature, which is normally made by mixing with wastewater from other treatment steps. When surfactants, complexing agents, and so on,... [Pg.377]

Highly alkaline stable scouring agent for kier-boiling bleaching and general prescouring, afterscour for reactive. [Pg.245]

Application Used as a textile wetting agent, and in alkaline scouring operations. Used in dry cleaning detergents as potassium or sodium salts. Good antistat properties. [Pg.250]

The action of alkaline scouring agent is to saponify any residual oils, to neutralise carboxylic acids, to solubilise any sizing materials and to cause dispersion of naturally occuring impurities in natural fibres. Table 4.1 summerises the removal process involved during scouring. [Pg.87]

Scouring is mainly designed to remove the natural oils and waxes from the cotton portion and the finish oils which manufacturer add to polyester fibres when extruded. Blends of polyester/cotton can be scoured with alkaline scouring agents as per conditions shown in Table 4.16. Trisodium phosphate can also be used as an TABLE 4.16... [Pg.125]
