Scientific Advisory Board appointment

A temporary working group shall be chaired by a member of the Scientific Advisory Board appointed for that purpose by the Chair of the Board, with the approval of the Director-General. 

Hackerman quickly rose through the academic ranks at UT and served as chairman of the chemistry department (1952-62), dean of research and sponsored programs (1961-62), vice president and provost (1962), vice chancellor of academic aifairs (1963-67), and university president (1967-70). In 1970,hejoinedthefacultyofRice University as a professor of chemistry and president of the university, holding both appointments until his retirement in 1985. Beginning in 1982 and continuing until 2005 Hackerman chaired the Scientific Advisory Board of the Robert A. Welch Foundation, which had a large impact on fundamental chemical research in the state of Texas.

The Scientific Advisory Board shall appoint by consensus a Chair and a Vice-Chair by annual election from among its members. 

Asa condition for my appointment to the OPCW Scientific Advisory Board or to a temporary working group, I hereby undertake to comply with the letter and spirit of the OPCW Policy on Confidentiality. 

There are three principal ways for a chemical to be added to the Proposition 65 list. A chemical can be listed if either of two independent committees of scientists and health professionals finds that the chemical has been clearly shown to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm. These two committees are the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) and the Developmental and Reproductive Toxicant (DART) Identification Committee, and both are part of OEHHA s Science Advisory Board. The committee members are appointed by the Governor and are designated as the State s Qualified Experts for evaluating chemicals under Proposition 65. When determining whether a chemical should be placed on the list, the committees base their decisions on the most current scientific information available. OEH-HA staff scientists compile all relevant scientific evidence on various chemicals for the committees to review. The committees also consider comments from the public before making their decisions. 

Meldola was appointed a member of the Board of Trade Committee on the Supply of Chemical Products. In 1915 he became chairman of the advisory councils of the newly formed British Dyes Ltd, and of the forerunner of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. At that time, indigo was one of the many important synthetic dyes suddenly no longer available from German factories.
