Some research projects promoted or initiated by the Foundation are currently ongoing. A European research consortium, with the participation of different countries, is proposed to study the influence of pharmaceutical care in the control and treatment of minor diseases from community pharmacists, and it has submitted to the European Community in Brussels asking for economic support. Such research will be coordinated by the School of Pharmacy of the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. A project promoted by the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy is currently studying the number of drug related problems (DRP) identified by community pharmacists on patients discharged from the hospital. A research study on the number of DRP identified by pharmacists in patients admitted to emergency services of hospitals was initiated... [Pg.699]

Carole Raymond is a Director of the National Unit of Safety across the Curriculum (NUSAC) and Lecturer in physical education at the University of Exeter. She has been involved in initial teacher training of teachers and in the professional development of experienced teachers for many years. Her speciahst areas include pedagogy, curriculum development and management. More recently she has trained as an expert witness and is a representative on the BAALPE Expert Witness Institute. Case stories of school initiatives and change issues were developed from school reports, workshop presentations, field notes, and interviews with SIS Coordinators. In the last decade, some coordinated educational campaigns have been undertaken under the umbrella of the Civil Defense Department (DPC). EDURISK, for example, is a school-oriented group of initiatives since 2002 it trained about 3,000 teachers that reached about 60,000 students, in seismic and less seismic areas of the country. More recently, lONONRISCHIO, an awareness campaign for the reduction of seismic risk promoted by DPC, ANPAS (The Public Assistance Italian Association), INGV, OGS, ReL-UIS (The Laboratories University Network of Seismic Engineering), which takes place every year in the squares of Italian municipalities in the 2013 edition over 200 Itahan cities have been reached. [Pg.74]

Clearly, policy initiatives for specific elements of school health or for coordinated school health programs are negatively affected by the piecemeal and categorical ways in which school-related intervention policies are enacted. Indeed, this is the case for all school-owned and -linked support programs and services. The roots of the problem lie in the marginalized status of such efforts vis- -vis school reform. The s miptoms of this problem are seen in the ensuing firagmentation that usually results in costly redundancy, dysfunctional competition, and limited intervention effectiveness. [Pg.32]

Given these data, some advocates then suggest that it is self-evident that schools should expand what they do related to mental health. This position echoes the call of many others who have recognized that schools provide an important venue for enhancing the health status of children and adolescents. Such a view is well articulated, for instance, in an Institute of Medicine report (Allensworth et al., 1997) and in initiatives funded by the federal government designed to foster coordinated school health programs and mh in schools (Adelman et al., 1999 Marx, Wooley, Northrop, 1998 Weist, 1999). [Pg.35]
