Scanning electrochemical microscope electrolyte solutions

The kinetics of AgGl dissolution in aqueous solutions without supporting electrolyte have been studied utilizing well-defined and high mass transport properties of the scanning electrochemical microscope [376]. An ultramicroelectrode probe positioned close to the AgGl surface was used to induce and monitor dissolution of the salt via reduction of Ag+ from the initially saturated solution. [Pg.945]

Electrochemical nanotechnologies using ultramicroelectrodes such as the tips of electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopes and related devices [446,447] are of special interest both, for conducting local electrosynthesis and for electrochemical modification. The tip nanotechnique in electrolyte solutions ensures the optimal level of surface purity, offers additional possibilities in governing the processes by varying the potentails of the tip electrode and the substrate, and may also be used for... [Pg.98]

Alternating current scanning electrochemical microscopy (AC-SECM) was recently used to detect precursor sites for localized corrosion on lacquered tinplates (114). AC-SECM utilizes the effect of an increasing (decreasing) solution resistance as the SECM tip approaches an insulator (conductor) for mapping domains of different conductivity/electrochemical activity on surfaces immersed in electrolytes. It was demonstrated that AC-SECM could be used to visualize microscopic cracks and holes in the coating of the lacquered tinplates. [Pg.519]
