This phenomenon also occurs in saturated ring compounds having three or more members in the ring, as well as in certain coordination compounds.

The coordinately saturated rings have weaker B—N bonding, as evidenced by the oligomerization equilibria ( 15.2.5.1.2) and by interconversion reactions ( 15.2.5.4). Inasmuch as the substituent groups dominate the nature of stability, however, saturated ring compounds may have greater thermal and/or hydrolytic stability than the borazines (HNBH)j decomposes slowly at RT, whereas (HjNBHjjs is stable up to 150°C. 

The coordinately saturated ring compounds owe their stabilities to both additional steric effects and the unavailability of sites for electrophilic or nucleophilic attack. A clear discrimination between the relative influence of these factors is often difficult, but the fact that (H2NBH2)3 is unaffected by boiling water while (HNBHjj is rapidly hydrolyzed must be largely a consequence of the latter. 

Pyrrolidine is the saturated ring compound corresponding to pyrrole. 

Coke-oven tar is an extremely complex mixture, the main components of which are aromatic hydrocarbons ranging from the monocyclics benzene and alkylbenzenes to polycycHc compounds containing as many as twenty or more rings. HeterocycHc compounds containing oxygen, nitrogen, and sulfur, but usually only one heteroatom per ring system are present. Small amounts of paraffinic, olefinic, and partly saturated aromatic compounds also occur.

The disilanickela complex 21 is an effective catalyst for the double silylation of some alkenes. Thus, reaction of 11 with 2 equiv. of4-vinylanisole in the presence of a catalytic amount of 21 afforded a moderate yield of the five-membered disilylene compound 30. However, treatment of 11 with 1.2 equiv. of 1,1-diphenylethylene in the presence of a catalytic amount of 21 gave five-membered disilylene ring compound 31, which contained a saturated side chain.

For each of the ori/zo-fused ring systems the corresponding saturated ring system and the name obtained by Method 2 is shown.
