Saran fibers

Product trade names Teflon, Goretex. Product trade names Saran wrap, Saran fiber. [Pg.721]

Saran fiber n. Generic name for a manufactured fiber in which the fiber-forming substance is any long-chain synthetic polymer composed of at least 80% by weight of vinyhdene chloride units (—CH2CCI2—) (Federal Trade Commission). [Pg.858]

Wet cells composed of beds of wetted saran fibers have been proposed for fluoride absorption and tested on a pilot scale (Berly et al., 1954). However, no commercial installations are known. [Pg.443]

Fiber or Fibre is any tough substance composed of threadlike tissue, especially when capable of being spun or woven. Fibers may be divided into animal (wool or silk), vegetable (cotton, hemp, flax, ramie, esparto, jute, sisal etc), mineral (asbestos, glass fiber) and artificial (Rayon, Nylon, Orion, Vinyon, Saran etc)... [Pg.402]

The percentages show the share of each fiber in the specified end use each year. b Includes acrylic, anidex, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester, saran, Spandex, TFE-fluorocarbon and vinyon. [Pg.213]

Yarn and monofilament only staple plus tow included under other. c Does not include fiber produced for cigarette filtration purposes. d Includes saran and Spandex yarn also, olefin and vinyon staple and tow. [Pg.214]

Use Copolymerized with vinyl chloride or acrylonitrile to form various kinds of saran. Other copolymers are also made. Adhesives component of synthetic fibers. [Pg.1319]

The development of ACF and AC cloths is closely related to that of carbon fibers (CFs). This makes that the raw materials used for the preparation of ACFs be, chronologically, the same as for CFs. Thus, in 1966, viscose and acetate cloths were, like for CFs, the first materials used to obtain ACFs [4, 5]. The low yield of the ACFs, and CFs, obtained from the above precursors, oriented the research towards the seek of other raw materials for the preparation of cheaper CFs and ACFs with a higher yield. In this way, ACFs were prepared from 1970 using lignin (with the brand of Kayacarbon ALF), polyvinylchloride [6] (i.e., Saran polymer, already used to obtain ACs) and phenolic precursors [7]. The high yield and the good mechanical properties of the ACFs obtained make these precursors very useful for this application. In fact. Economy and Lin [8] developed ACFs from a phenol formaldehyde precursor, which are commercialized since 1976 under the name of Novolak. In 1980, Kuray Chemical Co. Ltd commercialized ACFs from phenolic resin under the name of Kynol. ... [Pg.432]
