Silsalate.. Salsalate. salicylsalicylic acid (Amige.sic. Disaleid. etc.), is the ester fonned between two salicylic acid molecules to which It is hydrolyzed following absorption. It reportedly causes less gastric upset than aspirin because iti.s relatively insoluble in the stomach and is not absorbed until it reaches the small intc.stine. Limited clinical trials"" - " suggest that it is as effective as aspirin and that t may have fewer side effects."" The recommended dose It 325 to I. (H)0 mg 2 or 3 limes a day. It is available only ( prescription. [Pg.757]

Other salicylates available for systemic use include salsalate (salicylsalicylic acid disalcid, others), which is hydrolyzed to salicylic acid during and after absorption, sodium thiosalicylate (injection REXOLATe), choline salicylate (oral liquid arthropan), and magnesium salicylate (tablets magan, momemtum, others). A combination of choline and magnesium salicylates (choline magnesium, trisahcylate, triusate, others) also is available. [Pg.443]

Salsalate, or salicylsalicylic acid, (pKa 3.5 [COOH], 9.8 [AR-OH]) is a dimer of salicylic acid. It is insoluble in gastric juice but is soluble in the small intestine, where it is partially hydrolyzed to two molecules of salicylic acid and absorbed. On a molar basis, it produces 15% less salicylic acid than aspirin. It does not cause Gl blood loss and can be given to aspirin-sensitive patients. Salsalate is available as capsules and tablets. [Pg.1454]
