Safety Assessment of Biofuel Production Technologies

It is mandatory that the safety of a process plant fulfills a certain required level and standards. This is because of general legal requirements, besides the indirect benefits to the image and economic performance of a company. Therefore, safety should influence process decisions from the first moments of the design project. One of the existing studies adopted the well-established hazard and operability (HAZOP) method for safety assessment of biofuel process (Jeerawongsuntom et al., 2011). [Pg.348]

Using the simulated biodiesel production process as case study, basically Jeerawongsuntom and team (2011) integrated the human-machine interface with HAZOP analysis for safety protection. Safety instmmented system was developed to create interlocks such as automatic shutdown to prevent the system from being exposed to extreme or [Pg.348]

Jayswal et al. (2011) also conducted a similar kind of work on biodiesel production [Pg.349]

Overall, from the review of these earlier works, attempts to incorporate safety in designing or operating a safer biofuel production system have already started. However, the works [Pg.349]
